I everyone,

Ref. BigWater CL-W0005
Motherboard: Asus P5GD1

I bougth a Thermaltake BigWater 12cm Liquid Cooling System recently after installing it worked fine. Later on i installed XP OS and SPack2 and the 12cm Radiator Fan began to accelarate to its max. rpm and runs with an inconsistent rotation since. I c'ant controle the fan with the VR function button.

The radiador as a brown connector with a yellow wire (Fan's rotation signal) and it is connected to the "CPU_FAN" on the board so i can monitor it. CPU temperature is 36ºC.

Normally this system was supposed to be a quiet one. Help please

Any ideas of what am i doing wrong??

I would unplug the yellow wire from the fan to the mobo and see if that helps.
With the fan connected to the controller it really shouldn't matter, but try it. I connected the pump to the cpu fan header to monitor pump speed.

Make sure the connections are good at the fan.

I'll look into this in more detail when I get home.

Good luck!

First (and obvious) thing to try.........reformat, and reinstall XP without SP2, if it's a recent install.

Secondly, do a thorough spyware/adware scan, and a virus scan (see the Spyware/Adware forum for info on the best way to do it).

Third, make sure your BIOS and chipset drivers are the latest versions.

What it sounds like (to me) is that you now have a ton of programs running in the background that are causing the CPU to heat up. Since the fan on your BigWater will speed up as the CPU heats up, the more you have running, the faster it will spin. SP2 alone shouldn't cause this, but there's a couple of reasons it could: If you installed it over SP1 (bad idea.......install a clean, no-SP version and then SP2, if you can) or you were hooked up to your broadband while installing, and got nailed with a ton of spyware. It's also likely that you had your previous OS install tweaked to good performance levels, and with the fresh install, you have alot more OS junk running than you did before.

Try the above steps, refer to the Spyware forum if you're unsure, and see where that gets you.

But with the fan connected to the controller, it should be controlling speed. The yellow wire only lets the mobo monitor fan speed.

I fussnfeathers,

I have reformated and reinstall XP. There no spyware issue since i did'nt even connect the PC to the net. The temperature is normally at 36ºC.

I think it is an harware issue, the fan radiator runs unstable allways bumping from high to low. I mentioned XP and XP2 but i'm not sure that it was it that caused the problem. ASUS as a Q-Fan funtion in bios that is supposed to control the fans but it is disabled since the rad. fan has the VR Function regulator to adjust the speed manually.

Thank you for your reply

Ok i found the problem. the VR Function device is broken. I tested with another VR from another fan and works fine like it should.

Thank you all.
