Time is nearing where im goin to be getting my new computer...but i need to decided on a fan to compliment my ThermalRight XP-120.

I dont want anything deafening...but at the same time its got to do the job of cooling an AMD 3700+ CPU. Ideally im looking for a High CFM, Low db 120 mm fan.

But roughly...what CFM should i look for when wanting to cool a CPU WELL!

I have looked at a Papst 120mm 53.3CFM, 26db...but i figured ill ask you guys!

not very much cfm but pressure is more important for heatsink cooling...

Wouldn't a higher CFM equal a higher pressure? More air flowing would seem to make more pressure. I could be wrong though, haven't shopped around for fans in awhile.

not necessarily. it really depends on the fan... sometimes higher cfm translates into higher pressure, sometimes it doesnt.

with the xp-120 i think cfm is just as important, because it gives you more area to dissapate heat in, although since its still thin-fin, pressure is still a consideration

and you could probably get up to 80cfm or so with a 120mm fan and still keep it ~30dB or so.

just my 2c

for that cpu and heatsink combo you should shoot for around 1000 cfm minimum. Just kidding!
You are looking in the right direction. Papst makes some of the best fans on the market in terms of flow versus noise. If you can find one that puts out a little more airflow and gets up to about 30 or so db you will be golden.

Well ive looked about, and the only other fan i can find that looks better in terms of noise > sound, is a Panaflow FB 120-L1A here:

4th product from bottom, though only thing putting me off is the actual site....never heard of it or heard anyone use it....what do you guys think of it?
