I have 3/8 lines for my vid card water block. I just changed my pump from the TT Big water pump (1/4 lines) to a 12v DD mag pump. It cooled better with the other pump. Im guessing the flow was slower thus letting the water cool longer in the radiator.
Now my ?? is.. Will a restrictor hurt my pump? I was looking at the website and the article had nothing saying if the pump was able to work in other voltages other than 12V. I just didnt what to try it and it goes out. So which would be better, the restrictor or the voltage drop?

Any help Appreciated

yes you can adjust the flow rate by using a rheostat.

Also, tuning of your pump flow rates can be done with a rheobus. The rheobus needs to have at least a rating of 18W per channel. Just like fan control, if a user wants the lowest sound level possible, the pump voltage can be decreased. This can lead to different CPU temperatures and as a end user, you can control this! The sound levels have been greatly reduced. Remember, at least 6 Volts is needed to start the pump

ok you have two 120mm radiators, right? how is the system plumbed? If you need to slow the waterflow thru the radiators you could run them in parallel rather than series. This would slow the water flow thru them and cause more "dwell" time.
On that pump I dont think that it is variable by using voltages. It says that it is configurable by changing the impeller for the specific waterblock you are using.

If you run the rads in parallel you will need to make sure that both are getting the same flow rate, otherwise your cooling will suffer as most of the flow will go through one rad. A simple way is to use two flow meters and a valve to adjust the flow between the two.

An alternative method would be to use a rad with a larger bore pipe to reduce the flow, but I would'nt use a restrictor in the line as the pump could draw more ampage and may get hotter as it would be working harder trying to run at it's rated speed.

I'm not sure about what would happen if you ran the pump at a lower voltage / ampage as it's a brushless motor (like a coolng fan) which *might* have some contoler circuitry to maintain it's speed. It should be fine to do a test with a lower voltage, 7-10V should be enough to allow the motor to still run. Just check that the pump is'nt making any strange noises or getting too hot. If all is well leave it like that for a little while to make sure it will operate correctly.
I would check the pump bearings for any sign of wear or damage after a week or two (should'nt be long enough for anything even slightly serious), if nothing shows up then the pump should be good to go at that voltage.

Give it a try, it should'nt hurt the pump as a short term test.

well since you are running two systems you will want to contact the pump manufacturer and find if they make an impeller for the waterblock you are using.

Just a little info. A fan operates quieter and more effectively when its pulling air through rather than pushing.
