|
|
Well, some of you may remember that I recently built a computer for my GFs aunt. Anyway, in the process, I got roped into installing an ethernet card into each of her children's computers, which went without a hitch. The cards show up fine on both computers, and the router shows an active connection between it and the computers. Problem is, there's no internet activity on either of them. I've looked in all the settings I can think of. I've tried automatically acquiring an IP through windows (I'm not sure how good 98 is on this, XP does it just fine for me).
So at any rate, could someone give me some detailed instructions to do this? I really don't feel like going over to their house and spending three or four hours with trial and error until I get it right.... _________________

well, when I installed an ethernet into my P1 system, when I configured IE, I had to tell it to automatically detect settings. I don't know if that helps, but thats what I did with 98SE.You may also want to reset the modems plug one computer in at a time. I am not familiar with aquiring the IP address. _________________ P4 3.2ghz

You may want to check the router's manual. The particular router may have certain special needs in win98.
The last time I sat up win98 on a linksys (it has been awhile) I just had to go through the network settings and make sure everything was automatic. Then I went to IE and the connections tab and told it to get the lan automatically, and it took off fine. (remove any old connections)
**edit** Oh yeah...remember to take your win 98disk, cause everytime you touch network settings it wants it. _________________ .
