ok, i was messing around with a can of "duster" its basically compressor air in a can, and it contains some methyl hydrate (i think, because it comes out cold and evaporates VERY fast + it says contains alcohol on the bottle), so when the can is upright and u spray it it shoots a burst of room temperature air out to remove dust fropm things.,.. when u hold the can upside down and shoot it sprays a VERY cold burst of, alcohol i think. anyways its very cold.... im wondering if using this can of duster and my fan controller which has an alarm on it set to go off at the temperature which i designate/... IE: CPU temp reaches 40 degrees C and the alarm starts beeping.. im wandering if anyone knows how instead of the alarm i can rig it so it sends a signal in place of an alarm sound to some sort of set up which will trigger the can of upside down duster to spray onto my proc,.., i think it would be really cool to do htis, anyone have ny ideas? or see any problems with this??... perhaps even just spray onto the heatsink if there is a problem with spraying it onto the proc, but i dont think there will be a prob , it says safe for electronics. anyway let me know what u guys think, thanks, my setup = in my signature _________________ My setupd:

I see one HUGE problem.
Moisture.
Turn that can upside-down, and spray it into the air.......see that nice, fine mist of moisture? Now, go spray that into an electrical component, and watch the fireworks start.
DO NOT DO THIS. _________________ Big enough to scare you |

it can cause the computer to shut down as well!! and if its directly on the cpu and heatsink may cause some serious damage.
How do I know this? about the computer shutting down by the sudden drop in temp?
Well on my current main system with the external radiator, during a benchmark run I used some of this "canned air" and held the can upside down and sprayed it on the exit plenum of the radiator. The hose connected to this part leads directly to the cpu. With the sudden drop in temp the computer shut down in an instant. And also the radiator lost some paint in the area sprayed. Bottomline is I wont be doing that again. _________________ I tweaked and it tweaked back! So I Tweaked some more!

ahhhh,..lol see i figured as much about the condensation but the sudden temp change is news to me.. wow thats cool, i wonder why it does that, i see our minds arent so far off anikin ...lol _________________ My setupd:

It would do that due to the sudden voltage change. "Loose" electricity leaked out of procs converts to heat. If you suddenly, and quickly, cool a proc down by a large amount, that excess power never converts to heat, and gooses the voltage momentarily. Not a whole lot, but enough to shut the system down due to the sudden spike in power. _________________ Big enough to scare you |

Also, don't spray it upside down on anyone's skin. Well, you can do it a little, but don't hold it in one spot until there's frost....just....dont. _________________
