Logitec Precision Gaming Headset - bad sound

I recently bought these logitec precision gaming headphones and i am not at all happy with the sound quality...
You might say "well why didn't you buy a better pair?" Answer is, i read a review on them and the person reviewing said they sounded awesome. So with that and logitec being a very good brand, i thought why the hell not.
Here are my problems:
1. tinny sound when turned up to a normal listening level
2. The volume maximum level is really low. ( i have everything up full in my sound setting and also on the headphones themseleves)
3. No bass
4. Poor mid and treble.

So after reading the review from here http://www.tweaknews.net/reviews/logprec/
I have come to realise that it maybe could be something else to do with my computer or the headphones could be defective i don't know..They are brand new!

If anyone has this problem or have pair of these headphones please let me know how they work for you.

logitech is know for keyboards and mice not headsets, if you want a good headset get Sennheiser nothing beats them for the price, sure they are expencive but something close to one of their heatsets costs a lot more like the Bose headset, Icemat Siberias are good too.

"Good sound" is subjective.......what sounds good to one person might not hack it for somebody else.

If you're looking for better sound than the Logitechs can provide, you have really two options that I'd recommend.

If you're looking for a headset/mic combo, look at the Senheiser PC150, about $55 at most of the online retailers. Keep in mind, though, that these small, lightweight "superaural" (means they sit ON your ears, not around them like full-sized 'phones) will NOT have the bass response of full over-the-ear headphones.

If you're looking primarily for good sound, and the mic is a secondary thing, I really like AudioTechnica's ATH-D40fs 'phones. They go for $130 give or take, so they're not cheap, but they're definitely worth it.

Both Senheiser and AudioTechnica make pro-level headset/mic combos. I don't typically recommend those for "average Joe" for two reasons: One, they're VERY expensive. $300 give or take for a decent set. Second, the mic has an XLR connector, and would require two adapters to be used with your computer.......one XLR to 1/4", then a 1/4" to 1/8"........that's about 5 inches of adapter.

Anyway, the Logitechs aren't bad, they're just not everyone's cup of tea. I know three people that have them and love them, but to me, they don't sound good at all. No fault to Logitech, their speakers pretty much rule the roost......it's just the nature of that type of headphone.

These headphones can only reproduce the sound signal and power they are supplied with.

I use these headphone exclusively for my gaming and they are really loud and the sound quality is actually quite good.

I would test out the sound with another set of cheap headphones for reference to see if the volume level will be the same to pinpoint if it is a soundcard problem or the headphones themselves.

i said not headets yes i know they make some of the best speakers the 5500's are badass, but Sennheiser is 100 times better than logitech could be at making headphones, and fuss i dont know why you are saying about the bass response i get more bass from my PC155's same as the 150's but with a usb sound card, than i did with my altec lansing and my Sony fully over the ear headphones, they give great bass responce and sound really good, not ever headphone that covers your year is gonna have good bass the Sennheisers are great and on www.ecost.com they cost $35.

and i have used Logitech Altec Lansing Plantronics Labtech, ive used a lot of different heasets and headphones from different companies and none of them match Sennheiser, Sennheiser is considered the best Headphone and Headset company there is, and no one has matched them yet except Bose and Icematt, the Bose cost like $500 and the way Icemat did their mic is whats keeping me away from the Siberias.

He could have a hardware problem or a defective headset which happens to them all.

So before we put brand names down, let's fix his problem.

I got it all wrong about the logitech headphones..they are not crappy or defective!!! The real fact is, they dont seem to work properly on my computer. I tried them on my bro's PC and they sound sweet! I tested them with music and counter strike source and they are very good gaming headphones for the price i paid for them.

So, if you are about to go and tell all your friends not to get these headphones coz i said they were s***...STOP! they are fine!

Anyways, i have on board sound and i have updated all my souncard drivers and still they dont work on my pc. I'll keep trying and if any1 has any suggestions, feel free to let me know.

Before we go nuts........glad to see you got it sorted. Some things to check on your computer:

Do you have your sound set for "headphones" when you're using them? Depending on what onboard sound you're using, it may or may not have its own volume control panel. In Window's Sound applet in the Control Panel, there's a setting right on the first screen for Speaker Settings. Make sure that's set to "headphones". If you have a vendor-supplied sound control (like SoundBlaster's, for example) make sure that one is set to "headphones" as well.

Also make sure that the volume controls in each are up. In some cases, if you have Windows' volume control down, and are using your motherboard maker's sound applet to control the volume, it won't get as loud as it should.

On the other hand, if you have an older motheboard (you don't say), then it might be time to spring for a PCI soundcard. Even a regular ol' Audigy2 Value will give you better sound than older onboard stuff. $49 at most retailers.

That's just a few things to look at. If you can, post your system specs, what motherboard you have, etc etc, and I'll try to help you further.

Also...have you tried them from the motherboard (out the back ) as well as out the front panel jack? I have seen problems with front panel arrangements also. Again, different mobo, case thingies.

I have tried all of these things without success. eg, headphone settings in control panel, front/back input jacks etc etc.

My system specs are:
Gigabyte GA-7DXE Motherboard
AMD Athlon XP 1800+
1.5Ghz (only reads 1.15Ghz though Confused

. Does tis mean it is running at this speed?) - has something to do with front side bus!
768 RAM
60GB
Nvidia GeForce 4 Ti 4800 SE (128MEG)

It's not really a fault of Gigabyte there, or a bad board, just sub-par VIA onboard sound. It's an older mobo, though, and onboard sound kinda sucked when it first re-emerged. Personally, I like Gigabyte boards, for the most part. Not the fastest or most feature-laden, but dependable.

I would suggest a PCI soundcard, if you're gonna keep that motherboard in use. Might be time for an upgrade, though, you're saddled with a 4x AGP slot and support for only PC2100 RAM max.

Yes, your proc is running slow, the FSB is set too low. An AMD guy can help you with that, I'm not familiar with the multipliers offhand. Stick a question about that in the Processor forum, somebody will answer you.
