If anyone can find the drivers for this motherboard it would be a big help.
Thanks

Aye those are the correct ones.

I didnt realise taht instead of just having one driver that covers the lot...the VIA chipset makes you install each aspect of it individually

I have another issue which has had me going at it for a few hours. I am trying to recover some data off a SATA Maxtor 200gig, so i can then do a fresh install of windows as a vital windows file is missing...hence it wont boot (i think a virus got in)

There is no system restore set, and i cannot access it as a primary drive. When i put the 2 HDD's in the system, i can either boot from the PATA and the SATA isnt recognised in windows, or i can attempt to boot with the SATA (doesnt work) and the PATA doesnt even show in the BIOS.

I have attempted to install the SATA drivers by having the PATA as the primary drive and hitting F6 with a floppy disc at windows setup..but when it comes to the install it says it doesnt recognise any mass storage device sutiable. I know that all hardware in the system is fully functional, the only problem being i can install SATA drivers (essential to fix it) and that the drive is un-accesable as a primary drive.

I move the PC to get a net connection to update anti virus and windows...load it up nothing changed...BSOD.

Started in safe mode...removed network, video and modem drivers...still same thing. Looks like i got to set it all back up again

Try lowering the speed of your CPU and RAM below their normal (standard) settings, then boot into safe mode, check all is well and all drivers are removed (drivers only TRULEY remove in safe-mode) also check the hardware manager for any ! or ? marks. if all is well reboot windows normaly (still under clocked) and see if it works, if so you might need to adjust your BIOS settings a bit. NT based OSes are a bit picky about running on even slightly unstable hardware (I can overclock higher with win 9x than with XP).

failing that sounds like you got someting corrupting the windows install, maybe windows is reverting the motherboard's SATA controler drivers to MS drivers (try turining the driver verification off), it could be screwing the system up.

OK now im truley puzzled.

I have installed XP 5 Times, each time a BSOD has occured at a certain stage.

Previous attempt, i installed windows, set up all users and installed SP2.

I managed to reboot with this 5 times just to check it over...still no drivers installed at this stage. I then reboot, install Firewall and Anti-Virus, reboot, BSOD. THIS WAS WITH NO DRIVERS INSTALLED.

I then again, reinstalled XP, set up all users, install SP2. I restarted 5 times no problem. I then installed Office XP, rebooted 5 times and no BSOD's.

From the tests i have been doing...it leads me to say that the BSOD's are related to the Firewall and AV software.

I also have a XP install set up for this system on another hard drive...i never once had a problem...and i never installed the firewall and AV software Either.

The Firewall and AV softwre is a 1 year free trial provided with SP1 produced by CA.

they probably dont play nice together. I would suggest using a different firewall and AV.

You ARE dissabling the built in firewall utility included in the SP2 are'nt you?
If not this is your problem, MS already state it will not play nice with other firewall utilities. I'm sure you are, but sometimes we all forget the simple things.

Absolutely correct.

Most third-party firewall vendors had to update their software to work with SP2. And, just as a note........CA (Computer Associates) was the original developer and seller of Norton. Symantec bought them out a couple of years ago. I would imagine CA's "newest" version of their AV and firewall software is rather buggy, since they had to start from scratch, and not tread on Symantec's new ownership.

Yes...the only thing i dont understand...im using exactly the same Firewall (i dont bother with their AV) and SP2 on my PC, so i know they work together

but you arent using the exact same hardware, are you. This makes a difference as well. It may be the different software package that goes with that different hardware that creates the conflict.

Very true....i havent done any work on it yet. I will repost here tomorrow after i have installed all the drivers without the firewall and AV package.
