with the very limited time I have had with the system up and running so far I have managed to easily get it running at 4.0 ghz (16x250). But at this speed it needed to run a divider for the memory, it was running at DDR333. As it stands right now I think that the motherboard has troubles running the memory where it should be run at. The memory I am speaking of is Corsair DDR2 PC8000UL. What I might do is pick up an Asus mobo with the i955 chipset and see how far that will take me. And maybe get a 7800gtx as well, since after all the 955 isnt SLI certified yet.

And now for the Memtest screenie with it running at 4.0 ghz

It ran fine at this speed of course. But at DDR440 it was having errors in test 4. But as I stated earlier I think another motherboard would fix that. Only time will tell at this point.

I should be starting some serious benchmark runs on the 28th or 29th. The missus is going out of town for two weeks, so that means alot of free time in the evenings to do some tweaking!

This morning I was able to reach 4.25 ghz!
fsb 250 with a multiplier of 17!
I am going to try and get some benchmarks on this tonight. This processor is overclocking better than I could have imagined. But from what I have read the Prescotts have been overclocking rather well. I figure that if Fugger can reach 7.2 ghz using his cascade system then I should be able to at least reach 4.0!
Wish me luck.

Yeah, good luck!

I'm not shocked, really. The PEE (hehehe) runs cooler than a similarly clocked single core chip, so you have more thermal headroom to play with.

well the 7.2 ghz wasnt on a PEE it was one of the 3.8 single core cpus. If you are interested, here is the here. Fugger has only gotten to 4.5 ghz on the 840EE. That is also on the same board that I have and he is having troubles with it as well. But he was using some extreme voltage on the cpu. I think it was a little over 3 volts! The max my board is able to feed the cpu is 1.472 even with the vcore set at 1.525v in the bios with the overvolt feature of 100mv enabled. And the cpu termination voltage set to 1.30. I will have to wait and see what happens when I get a new board though.

ok just a little update!
I got my new motherboard installed, the watercooling plumbed, the other hardware installed. Decided to try a little tweaking. Well can run memtest at 4.4 ghz at DDR900+!! The downside is, it gets alot of errors. So right now its running at 3.8 ghz at DDR800 with 4-2-3-4 timings. It gets 3700+ M/sec at these settings in the memtest bandwidth test. I am testing these settings to make sure they are stabel so that I can do a fresh install of winXP. Then the serious tweaking starts!

Just as a side note; the new Black Ice Extreme III, Swiftech MCP655 pump, and Typhoon Dual 5 1/4" bay reservoir are performing wonderfully at keeping the heat of this system in check. While the Koolance case is struggling to keep my P4 3.4EE cool (well as cool as it was before with a Black Ice Extreme II).

After some slight set backs my new system is up and running. In fact running at 3.7ghz (15x250) with DDR833 (4-3-2-9) memory and pushing 4 clients of Prime95. It has passed 24 hours (well 23 hours and 50 minutes really) of memtest86+ so far. Now it just needs to pass another 8 hours of Prime to be considered stable. Then its time for some benchmarks and more tweaking.

I forget, which mobo did you end up with? Something with a 955 chipset?

yeah the Asus P5WD2 Premium with the i955 chipset. This is one good motherboard! As of right now I would have to say that it is even better than the 875 chipset boards. Rumor has it that Intel is going to be releasing a 975 chipset that is going to be certified by nVidia to run SLI.

The only thing I am noticing with this board is the rather large droop in vcore when 100% loaded. At idle vcore is at 1.4v underload it runs at 1.30-1.33v. But it is stable at 3.7ghz. And that is still at stock voltage. So if I wanted I could bump that up some and see what I can get. But for right now I am going to let it get a few cycles on the silicon and then go up from here.

Yep, I saw that the other day...part of their cross-licensing agreement. Good things could come from it in the long run.
Good to hear you got things pretty well sorted. I was just curious on what you had settled on.
