|

I just got my new Geforce 6800gt but I'm currently running it on a 300w psu. My computer is a Sony Vaio RS420, and the case is configured in a way that makes it impossible to upgrade the PSU. I tried fitting an antec 430 in, but it was 1/4 inch to long and I couldn't get it past my cd drive. So my only option is to buy a new case.
I have no idea what size I need however! Will my mobo fit in a standard ATX, or does it need a micro atx, or even some other size?
I sifted through some posts and found other people having the same problem replacing the power supply, but couldn't find out what kind of case they were able to successfully change over to.
The specs on my mobo are:
Mobo Manu: ASUS Tek Computer Inc
Model: P4SD-VX
Chipset: Intel i865P/PE/G/i848P
Southbridge: intel 82801EB (ICH5)
Please help! |

Standard ATX cases will also accept micro ATX boards, so you "Should" be good to go, I have heard of issues with OEM pc's (dell, hp sony etc..) having issues with bolt hole placement, and also older models of dell had proprietary power supply connections, meaning they wont take aftermakret units, I personally have had good luck moving a newer dell into an atx case, so I know it can be done. the only problem I had was that the front panel connections on the dell were non-standard, so I had to engineer a custom interface.
good luck with this, you will love that video card, but you may want to consider a full motherboard upgrade, they offer a lot more features, and overclocking ability, which is non-existant in your sony.
oh yeah... Welcome to TweakNews
p.s. you only need to post a question in one section _________________ Yeah....... ok |

It should all fit in a standard atx case fine. Watch your airflow.
I only needed to read the question once, also. _________________ .

look into getting a liteon optical drive, they tend to be smaller than the other companies _________________ If time is of the essence,

A dollar says it is a lite on drive...since it is a sony rs420. Lite on makes many, many sony branded drives. _________________ .

Yeah, that is a Lite-On drive, so it's already the shallow depth. If you've ever looked at a Sony case, they're mind-numbingly shallow. _________________ Big enough to scare you |
