The DVI output has HDCP copy protection on it, which is probably why you couldn't get it working with your monitor or TV if they don't support HDCP. Older TVs with DVI and almost all PC monitors don't support HDCP.

The only DVD player that I've found that doesn't have HDCP on the DVI output is this Vizio/V Inc. Bravo D2:

nice to have dvd player as well as the hdtv.
