OK, I'm getting an Arctic Cooling ATI Silencer 3 for my vid card, and I need to know...can I just use my normal AS5 when I put it on, or do I need to get something different? Thermal paste or something?
I really have no clue; someone help me so I can order it tonight! _________________

Don't you need to get a AC1 instead of a 3 for your board?
Anyway, it should come with some goo. But you can use AS5, just be sure you don't smoosh any off the side of the chip because AS5 is electrically conductive. Just like a cpu a nice "paper thin" coat to make sure it mates up good. _________________ .

Is the one that should fit the pro. The 3 is for an XT and there isn't the second set of holes on the board for the rear bracket dealie. Also, there are two capacitors in the way....so you can use a three on a pro, but you have to take a dremmel to it to make it fit.
The one in your "edit" should work...I think it is their universal radeon family cooler.
There is a couple people here who know quite a bit about these. Stang, I know has been through it. _________________ .

Right, no problem there. I have a **** load of sandpaper in the closet that I've been hoarding up for my mod project... _________________

A bit late, but yeah, you ordered the right one. You need to use either the Universal ATI cooler you got, or the VGA Silencer 1 (the one I have). The only real difference is the RAM heatsink thingy.......nice, but if you already have RAM sinks, not necessary.
Good choice on the PSU too. _________________ Big enough to scare you |

Well my shipment came in today...I don't know what to think, yet. I haven't installed anything yet, but here are my few problems.
1.) I don't have any RAM sinks as of now, but that's no big deal. I ran fine without them before, so the card can wait another couple of weeks.
2.) My PSU has several scratches in the finish, which I'm kind of upset about. They're all on the top, thankfully, so I'll never see them once I install it.
3.) My worst problem - the cords included with my NeoPower seem kind of...short. Especially for a full tower case like mine. Ah well, we shall see, once I get it all installed. Let's hope for the best!
p.s. - Is it OK to turn my machine on without the vid card in there? I forgot all about getting some 'before' photos and I've already taken the card out and removed the old cooling solution (which revealed the R360 core I was hoping for). I figure without the card it'll just give me the "your AGP may have a problem" crap from the voice genie. _________________

Yup, it's fine to turn on the machine without a vid card. In fact, I usually turn a new build on with just the CPU, RAM, and PSU installed, just to see if it POSTS with error messages.
The cables should be more than long enough for a full-tower. I have a mid-tower, and I have plenty of cable left over. Maybe they look shorter to you because of the plug on the end, I dunno. They're longer than my old 350w Antec, anyway. _________________ Big enough to scare you |

Yeah, maybe. We'll find out tomorrow. I'm gonna take some pics of my rig on and off where it is now, then take it down and put the new PSU in there then put it back up and take more pics for the case gallery.
Oh, and g$ was quite right...that VGA cooler was smooth like a metal file. I lapped it down some with my 800 then 1500 grit paper though, and it's smooth now.
The pics are coming, I promise! I just don't have a camera and it took a bit to convince my GFs mom to loan me her $900 camera, hehe. _________________

OK, here's picture update #1...first thing's first -
the new PSU, still boxed up. And here's a picture of the scratch, then a side-by-side with the old PSU:
And now for some picture of the old wiring job (if you could call it that):
Power on, lights off...my GFs mom doesn't know how, or even if, she can turn her camera's flash off...and I haven't had enough time to play with it, so this is the best we could get.
This one is with the power off, and the side off so you can see the mess of wires.
And finally, this is an old picture, but some of it is the same.... See those two white wires going down the back of the case? They're still there, I dunno what to do with them atm (they are my top USB). Also that black wire with the lumps is the cable for my front audio panel on my Audigy 2 ZS Plat. It's there atm, but I think I'm going to take it out, since I never use it and all it does is add cable clutter. Also, those 2 clear cable clips have been removed and the cables in them (power sw, reset sw, speaker, power and hd LEDs) sleeved and hidden.
Final shots to come soon. This case is far from complete, also. When I move out in a few months, I'll have room to really work, so all of the inside and back will be painted to my liking. _________________

OK, now I have an important question for you folks. Like FnF said, the cables are "long enough," but they're just long enough by a few inches. I'd like to have them be longer so that I can hide them better.
So, here's my question...would it be OK for me to build either some longer molexes from spare wires and ends that I have lying about, or should I look into getting some longer base leads? Thing is, I don't know if attaching, say, a line with 1 molex on each end to one of the three plugs on the lines coming from my PSU would be OK? See what I'm saying? It's kind of like daisy-chaining the stuff together, but different, I guess.
Hmmmm.......I still have a lot to learn! _________________
