Hi,
I recently had conversation on a forum and a guy says the following:

'Music has square waves in. Whats so special about DC? Nowt, its all down to power.
Power is power, no matter if its DC or AC. The same equations apply to both AC and DC. x volts across a y ohm load results in x/y amps flowing, be it a constant DC voltage or a momentary voltage as part of a constantly time varying signal V=IR always applies, P=IV always applies.
This is why lightbulbs and electric heaters work with AC and DC'

Is this correct about clipping as I thought it is only DC current that damages speakers......? Confused Thanks

Amp output is AC.
And yes, power is power. However, as I've said in previous posts, power of a signal is the area under the curve when graphed out. This means that both a DC and AC signal with the same voltage will not have the same power. The DC signal will have higher power. Your 120v house lamps will burn out sooner if given 120v DC.
Like I've said in other posts, a 300w speaker and a 300w amp will work perfectly together, unless you clip the amp. A clipped amp could put out up to 600w and thus toast the speaker. Likewise, you can kill a 300w speaker if you hook it up to a 600w amp. With a clean AC signal, you still overpower the speaker. So its not just DC that kills speakers.
