C-Media onboard sound chip

I just finished my first PC build and I am having problems with the chip. When I attach my speakers, I get very little sound from them... Even with the volume controls all the way up. It seems like it is playing headphone loudness. I have checked all the settings and they are all set for desktop speakers. The speakers, however, are not amplified. Is that my problem?

that is your problem.
PC soundcards, and onboard sound chips only output sound at line level, there is no amplification. get yourself a set of amplified speakers

Agreed too.

I can fart louder than unamplified speakers.

Of course, on a good day, I can fart louder than most amplified speakers, too.
