Well, after moving from IE6 to Firefox 1.0.3 I have jumped again to Netscape 8 and I'm gonna stick to it.
After following Netscape's development since the early beta versions I must say I like the idea behind it. When using firefox sometimes I had to run IE to view certain sites, but with netscape I have the best of both worlds within the same app! I have the security of Firefox (Netscape core is Firefox 1.0.3) and compatibility of IE6.
I strongly suggest you try it for yourself. 'tis gooooood! _________________

That's always been the allure of FIreFox. It's basically Netscape (which I've used for years, off and on), without all the bells and whistles.
I'm a maverick.......I still use IE primarily. _________________ Big enough to scare you |

I don't trust them anymore than M$....IMHO
Aren't they still under the AOL umbrella? _________________ .

Yeah netscape still is.
It is unforunate that they are. I would use IE, in fact I've always loved it but I the reason I switched is this.
I have Adaware, Spybot and MS AntiSpyware installed, the later does a nightly search at 2am (PC is on 24/7). If I use IE to browse the web that day, say some site isn't displaying properly in Firefox, then the next day MS AntiSpyware will report that it has founnd at least 2 or 3 spyware programs during the night. This does NOT happen with Firefox only.
This of course was very annoying having to switch programs. Netscape solves this by putting two engines into one. To top this of, and this is the really nifty bit IMO, it uses blacklists from AOL and some other companies (I forgot) to see which sites are good and which are bad. So when you're visiting a good site Netscape will let you see it using either engine (Firefox or IE) or you can force netscape to switch to IE on a good site. However, if you come a cross a blacklisted site, then Netscape automatically switches to Firefox and disables stuff like Javascript, etc. It also remembers custom settings for each site as you browse.
That's why I prefer it (even though before version 8 I've always hated Netscape even when it wasn't owned by AOL). I have to admit though, the interface is a bit bad, the minimalistic approach of Firefox would have been the way forward. _________________

Whether you like it or not over 86% of net users still use IE so many webmasters concentrate on making sites that work for IE. This is bad practive, but it is done. I have come across many sites where say a button doesn't do anything when you click it so you have to switch to IE to make it work properly. That's just one example. I come across sites all the time, and switching from one app to another was just a pain, now it's easy with nestacape.
Btw, I don't work for netscape 8 or anything, i'm just really liking what they''ve done here.... and IE has tabbed browsing now (using Netscape 8 and the IE engine).
There were a few snags in Firefox which I didn't like but Netscape 'fixes' them. For example, when you open a new tab in Firefox it would be blank. In IE it would open the website that you previously had opened in the other window (from which you spawned the new window). This, of course, is personal preference. _________________
