|
|
As many of you know I have the Audiobahn A8001DT D class amp. Dont get me wrong I love this amp, but I want to know how to get optimal sound amplification from it. I only have to turn my Alpine HU up to about volume 15 and the seats vibrate like mad and it sounds like the subs are gonna blow up (not literally...), also the bass I here inside the car is loud but when certain higher bass notes are played on a track the subs seem to respond less bassy. Any ideas? Thanks |

thats not an amp thing.... thats a frequency of bass thing.... it all depends on which frequencies your subs pick up, and your HU puts out.....
just play around with some settings to get the best sound you like....
this exact thing is the reason i prefer two different subs and amps for my car.... _________________

As noted, it has little to do with the amp. Its low-pass filter is about the only thing that could contribute to the problem. Where is your LP crossover set at? It may be set too low to get any higher bass.
I generally would say set the crossover to around 80Hz. Usually, you don't want to go much higher as the more higher bass and midbass that comes from the subs deteriorates sound quality. Higher bass and midbass frequencies have shorter wavelengths (thus are more directional than sub-bass) and thus when coming from a subwoofer, it pulls your soundstage to the rear of the car and messes up your imaging. (i.e. it can sound like shti)
Are you running components or coaxials? If so, are they run off an amp? If so, where is the HP filter set?
Are you using any bassblockers on your speakers? If so, what frequency are they set at?
Not ragging on you or anything, but many people put too much into creating a great sub system while neglecting the rest of the frequency spectrum. Sure, 30-80Hz might sound great and loud, but what good is this if everything else can't keep up? This is a problem if you actually plan to listen to music and enjoy the system. |

| Hi I have tweaked the settings, mainly the LPF which is at around 90 Hz now, and the subsonic filter which is now at 10, whatever that is?? Cheerz |

WB, for the sake of your sub, set your subsonic filter closer to or at 20Hz. On average, the human ear doesn't recognize anything below this anyway...also kinda hard on the sub.
Yes, well, some audiobahn equipment over the years has look....well....like crap. In the states here, they are definitely NOT overpriced. They are actually a pretty fair quality bang-for-the-buck brand. Your friends are dumb...but they are british so they don't know any better....(JUST JOKING). Just smile and nod your head because the SOUND of your system should discredit them. _________________ |¤| |

Thats exactly what i was thinking anyway Sally. Quite alot of them are goin around with these cheap crappy £30 subs and no-make amps, so ya know..... Yer well thats where I bought my amp from- the US, over ebay. But I paid £180 for my A8001DT (about $350), are they that cheap in actual American audio stores??? |

| As you well know by now, my amp is 800W RMS @ 1 ohm. So does this mean it would have a rated MAX output of about 1500W? or is the 800w its max? |

| Yeah, something around that figure. Why do you ask? It is not all that useful of a figure. |
