Okay....tried something new today and it worked slick....
Scenario...around halloween I loaded this guys puter...SP1. Okay, well...he got a destop hijack....(he went around his linksys, bad boy)
SOooo...I had an image I made at the time and I imaged it all back....while that was doing it's thing I used that little slipstreamin utility ^^^^( http://www.autopatcher.com/autostreamer.html ) ^^^^ on his disk....
So then when both were done, I put the new sp2 disk in, and booted. I do a repair the OS and a few minutes later all I had to do was a few SP2 type tweaks and he was ready to go....way cool...saved an hour or two over a fresh install I'm guessing.

Guys......I will tell you this.

Slipstreaming XP will NOT work if it already has SP1 in it, or it's an OEM disk with vendor-specific stuff in it (like Dell, or whatever).

All you need is a pre-SP1 copy of XP, and you're good to go for slipstreaming. Personally, my copies of XP are pre-SP1 (and legal, so shut up), so I have no problems giving a slipstreamed version with SP2 included to people who's computers I fix for them. They have their orignal disk, their own CD key, all I do is provide them with an "updated" version, complete with their vendor drivers included. I don't charge for this, since I can't, legally. However, it saves me and the owner time later on, and it IS legal to slipstream, so no worries there.

Speaking of which, now's a good time to do the Microsoft Product Verification thingy, it's offered on the MS site now, but it will be mandatory within a few months.

I don't believe this part is correct...at least not for all versions.

Just trying to save peeps some upgrade headaches.

Most of the time it won't, mostly OEM disks, though. And I've never gotten it to work on an SP1 ss'd disk from MS either. OEM though, I don't think it will work at all, not without alot of extra work.
