I think my isp cuts off my downloaded when hey r nearly done on purpose, ive been downloading prime 95 for the last 4-5hours and its just cut me off ffs!

Im raging, and another thing when im playing games oline my ping is constantly flucatating from like (50-->200) like wtf?

What should my ping be with a 512kb conn, it actually says connected at 590kb when i conn but i dont know if thats really reliable... (whats r ur pings like?)

I doubt it's something your ISP is doing on purpose. Typically, that's a problem with your computer. When you download a file, that last little bit (usually the last 1%) is when Windows begins to transfer the file from the "temp" directory to the actual directory you chose to put the file in. Believe me, ISP's don't have the time to monitor your download, and pick on you specifically. Try moving your default temp folder to another drive or partition, and see if that fixes the problem.

That said........what type of connection are you using? Cable, DSL, satellite? 512kb doesn't give me much to go on. And yes, when you first connect, you can get a "spike" for a few minutes, especially if you're on, say, a low tier cable connection. That spike usually drops out, after a minute, and you're down to your rated speed or lower.

Try going to www.dslreports.com and running some of their diagnostic tools. It's also a good place to see if anyone else from your ISP is having similar problems.

Isn't that browser specific? I would have thought the individual browser downloads it to a temporary folder and only then moves it. I've had IE corrupt some downloads like this, whilst downloading with Firefox is fine. Mind you that is not a good indicator of whether IE or Firefox is better concerning downloads since I've been using IE considerably a lot longer than I've been using Firefox (and yes it does crash as often as IE, well for me, anyway). Mad

No this download was at like 85% of a 290mb file... at only 9kb/s so i was pissed when it failed (btw from majorgeeks.com)

And my bb is adsl 512kb/s and a few other users have been complaining about inconsistent pings and speeds but tiscali dont care much to fix it.

Also could you tell me how to change the default file to downlaod into, cause like sometimes it doesnt give you the option to specfiy where 2 download, and at the moment its just going 2 temp and i have to search through a whole lot of bs 2 find my files.
