Well I dont know what is causing it, I think my CPU just likes to run overly hot.. but it worries me, I do NOT like these temperatures that I am getting.

Idle: 50-55
Stress: 59-62

It seems to only be getting worse lately. I have a brand new Volcano 7 CPU Cooler, as well as well too many fans on this computer, half exhaust, half pull in. I just dont get what would cause this computer to get so damned hot. AMD AthalonXP 3000+ (actually Barton 2800+.. but everyhting reads it as a athalonxp 3000+).

On a side note, a P4 that is not more than 2 feet away from this computer running with only the CPU fan idles at like 39, at stress: max 48. I just dont get.

Any help, please?

that volcano could not have been installed right or isnt on right or too many fans could cause problems, or too much voltage, are you overclocked at all?

Right........check the Volcano for proper installation, check that you have enough.......just enough.......thermal paste between it and the CPU. Too little, you'll overheat, too much, you'll overheat and chance shorting out your CPU socket.

What's the size and specs of your fans? If the intake fans move less air than the out-take fans, the number doesn't matter. If anything, try unplugging one intake fan. Sounds wierd, but if your out-take airflow is stronger than your intake, you'll pull hot air out faster, and actually improve cooling.

Alot of other factors are involved, too.......like, how close to the wall each system is, cabling on the inside (is it neat on the P4, but sloppy on the AMD?), location of hard drives, number of drives, is one vid card much more powerful than the other, thus putting out more heat? Also, how new are the fans, and how clean are they?

Just a few things to look at.

a volcano 7... well there's the problem
try getting a volcano 11 or 12, they are better suited to that cpu

Well i think all the problems will be solved very soon. I just placed an order for some Ultra Silver thermal compound and a Masscool Ultra Quiet fan rated up to Athalon 3400+. They should arrive early next week and will promptly be installed. I also put in yet another case fan.

I did take your advice for checking the intake/outtake percentage for the fans that I do have in the case, and it didnt do anything at all. I also have now moved the box to a more ventilated area, again that did absolutely nothing.

Any other ideas would be great, if you think I should try anything else (even though I have the new stuff on its wayy)
