is 48 as an ABSOLUTE peak temp bad for my chip? 'specially since i never play games or have it like that for longer than like 3 minutes?

48*c max load for a 3.0C @ 3.75? no worries there, mate,
my 3.0C @ 3.55 tops out at 47*c

I think the max temp for a Northwood is 70c or some such. You're fine.

its not THAT high..... but i knw its up there.... 50 usually scared me as i very rarely saw my chip hit that.....but thanks for the reassurance guys....=D

So running my presscot 3.2@3.6 at full load at 60-67C ok? i just want to make sure.

Yeah your fine, mine hits ~45 on loads. I backed it down to 2.2 though since it started acting funny though.

According to Intel, maximum operating temps for Northwood procs will operate safely to a max core temp of 73.5C. This is at max load, with the standard Intel-approved cooling solution. This spec also holds true for Prescott core-based processors.

One thing you have to remember, guys......we're used to super-cooled procs, with tons of fans, watercooling, etc. Intel designs the chips for the average user, in an HP or Dell machine, which has NO fans, no fancy cooling, nada. What's hot to us (45C) is normal temps for a Dell cheapie desktop. These things idle at what we consider max temps.

I can't link to the spec sheet, it's a rather large PDF, but you can get the spec sheets and thermal load charts from the Intel site.

eh bro u better chek out dells new cooling solutions b4 u call them cheapie.. esp for the preshott etc...
its not that they didnt have the technology they just didnt need to implement it yet... so now with the presshott they are cooling quite well

I was more referring to the cheap Dells, not the whole darned lineup! Ya know, the ones you pay $600 for.
