Wait.........let me get this straight. You put a different BIOS chip in, not the one that came WITH the board? That won't work. You have to have the exact chip for the board, not another. Flashing the BIOS actually requires that the BIOS be readable for file size and version, so the flashing utility puts things in the right places, for the right board. The chip you have doesn't have room for the BIOS file size for your SATA RAID board. _________________ Big enough to scare you |

It doesn't matter, the chips are usually hard-wired to only work in the appropriate mobo. Even if its the same size, the internal workings are different, and won't accept the flash ROM.
Technically, it's solid state ROM, old-skool style. The program will ONLY work on a chip that's designed for it, with some very limited variations (like adding a feature later on). Otherwise, you could pull a BIOS chip from a Gigabyte board and jam it into an Abit board......it's the same size, pin count, etc.
BIOS still requires a floppy, there's no way to do it off CD, unless the board maker specificially designed it that way......and none do. There's a few mobos that can be "flashed" through Windows, without shutting down, but they're far and few between. That's changing soon, though, with the new BIOS replacements due to be out by the end of this year, if they get the DRM part hammered out. BIOS is so old, most people here weren't even born when it was invented. _________________ Big enough to scare you |
