Anybody have advice on a car security system? I just bought a 2001 Dodge Conversion van, and was thinking of installing an alarm. The ones on eBay have good prices, but what's a good name?

I don't need "auto start," or even a vaporize function to liquify burglers, just something that will make noise if anyone messes with or gets too close to it.

I was even thinking of getting one of those voice alarms that say stuff like: "Move away from the vehicle...You have 10 seconds to comply....." Then, the sound of a really loud uzi repeatedly firing for 25 seconds, with screams and blue lights flashing.... ..

Or.... multiple dobermans barking from within the van if someone comes within 3 feet of it.. Any advice will be appreciated. Audiovox makes some of the components already in there, but I'd like some input on this one..

Hee Hee, WOOT... ...Smith & Wesson, LOL,,, Great idea, but I'm not sure if I can teach the Dodge to shoot straight, you know how Vans are with guns.. This would be for when I'm not there to fight off the thugs myself....

Viper, I hear a lot about those when I search online,,,.. I'll check out the prices & features, thanks JW.

( Z, what's a lo-jack? ...????)

OK, I checked around the web, and Lo-Jack is great, but is a police / recovery etc. system, which I doubt I'd need, lol. It ain't a Ferrari..

Vipers are great, but would require a rocket scientist to install it, or it voids the warranty...

So, I did some more checking armed with this info, and came up with one that looks adequate for what I need. Advance Auto has it, special order.. It's called a Bulldog 2002PRO and takes a cretin 20 minutes to install under the hood, which sounds about my speed. Anybody heard of this brand?

Hey, thanks for your help guys!...

This one has 7 phrases:

Armed.
You're too close, get away from vehicle.
You're still too close, loading weapons now.
Taking aim, please stand still and recite a prayer of your choice.
Thank You.
EEEEEEEEEEEK, Help Me!!! (In a squeaky Mickey Mouse voice)
Disarmed.

...Or, something like that... .... It'll do the job anyway, they seem to be pretty good in that price range: $79.00. I checked for complaints and everybody that reviewed it was happy with it, partly because of the price.

I think the sound of gunfire is a universal language, JW... ..
They make add-ons that will fit most alarm systems, and you can add anything from machine gun fire (my favorite.. ..) to dogs barking, or you could record your own warnings complete with expletive deleteds.

I'll probably stick with the uzi sounds, with Arnold Swarzenegger's voice yelling "DANCE, you %$#@&^%... ..

Code alarms, I've actually heard of those, Stang. The one review I was abale to find on those recommended them, but I already ordered the Bulldog and will pick it up today. Thanks for your ideas guys!

Shopping for machine gun fire add on now...

Will do, JW....so far I've had to call Advance Auto and request the directions that were missing. ... ... I'm sure it's simple to install, but in case I ever sell it it's good to have what was paid for.

It'll be fun to hide in it and set it off when little old ladies get too close, heh heh

Oh, you know I'm joking!

Update on the Bulldog 2002PRO. I looked on the web for installation directions, and found that model had been discontinued!.. .. Also that it had some weather proof problems and short life with a lousy warranty..... ..

So, I returned it to the store, and I'm now looking at the Code alarms that Stang suggested. So many alarms out there, even in that brand!

I don't need remote start or all the frills, but need something reliable and effective, but easy to install. Some require you go into the steering column and mess with the airbag wires, YIKES!!!.. ...

I'll keep you guys posted, thanks for your help on this...

How 'bout

Dogs barking and that geto style rockin goin on (hydrolic suspention)
That would look so convincing.

My GF loves great danes and I recon she wouldn't bother with the alarm. She would leave a real dog in there.... a real BIG dog

Good idea, Xal I'll have to check and see if they make one with those particular sounds, lol.. It might be listed under Ghetto Rap/Dog Alarm System, I'll let you know..

You're so right, live doggies are great protection, but tend to turn nice cars into goat wagons, or so I've been told. My friend has one of these same vans, and that's how she describes it ,after her dogs were through with it.

Hers is for sale, BTW,,,,

Newsflash! I was browsing alarm companies, and find that DEI manufactures Viper, Rattler, and a few other cool alarm systems, so I ordered the DEI Wasp 718W mostly because it was easy to install. No brain, no headache...

I'll let you guys know what happens, I know you care... .
