I have posted this reply somewhere else on this forum too; but just to ensure a good number of views; I am reposting it: -

Yeah, none of the mentioned links work; and you can't discuss it in the winamp forums.

Anyways, here is one trick I've got to convert NSV into MPEG.

download NSVCutter from the net like scvi.net

use a macro manager and design a macro so that nsv_cutter exports each of the frames in the NSV video as a jpg file. Make sure that the names of the exported files are in a series.

In TMPGenc, enter the location of the first jpg file as the video source andd TMPGenc will autmoatically treat all of the files as a video. Now ajust the frame rate (this is a seperate mind boggling topic. I'm not discussing it here, u can search on the net)

Export the file as any type of *.avi or *.mpg you like.

Please note that if you are going to use the resultant file for DVD/VC recording; you'll have to re-encode the file. This may reduce quality . For minimum quality reduction; encode all of the jpgs into a no-compression avi (all frames uncompressed).

This ensures that there is no quality reduction in the first step (however, you'll need some 2 gigs for a 5-min file; but its worth it). The quality would be affected only when you re-encode the file into DVD/VCD compatible mpg.

This is only for extracting the video. I use high-quality mp3s of the same song for the audio source. But if I'm not wrong, nsv_streamcutter vlets you rip the audio which is handy if you don't have the mp3. However, having a high quality mp3 ensure that you get a good audio that doesn't nag you while watching the VCD.

Note - I have aviced some people with this trick who have succee in doing so. However, my nsv files were corrupted; so I could not do the jpg ripping part myself. All the things that are told after that have been one by me since ages (mostly used for making avi files out of frame-by-frame animations).

Hope this'll be helpful to all of you freaks!

And yes, the NSV files I have are from winamp.com

I am not sure if NSVcutter can rip NSV files from winamp.com

If you have any experience of using NSV cutter on winamp.com NSVs; please post it here.

Wow! I was excited that I had got a reply on the forum and came here. And I find that it is just a post asking me what's an NSV file?

Well, you could have searched for it on the net. Anyways, NSV means Nullsoft Streaming Video. It is increasingly becoming a popular formats, but the reason why everyone is excited to convert NSV into other vieo files is that, these files are available for free on winamp.com

What are the contents of the files?

Pure 100% official full length music videos that are meant to be streamed. Nullsoft streams its videos through winamp player, and so the nsv files have a definite location from where they can be saved on your HD unlike the WM an other streams.

The only problem is that winamp.com NSVs are not playable from your HD, and also these NSV files can not be converted into other file formats.

I hope I explained everything clearly.

Thanks, and expecting some more tweaks & suggestions on the original post.

what I want to know is that whether or not NSVcutter can be use on winamp.com NSVs or not. Please post your experience about this matter here and be helpful to others[/b]
