This is one I've used for awhile, I think MaximumPC also listed it once.
Right click your desktop, and create a new shortcut. In the location field, type this:
For Shutdown, type shutdown -s -t 0
For Restart, type shutdown -r -t 0
(note, that's a zero at the end)
What I do, then, is name the shortcut for whichever one it is, either Shutdown or Restart. Then, I drag that shortcut to my quicklaunch bar, lock the taskbar again, then delete the desktop icon.
Now, all you have to do is click that little shortcut once, and your computer either shuts down, or restarts, without having to go through the Start menu. Handy if you're doing alot of tweaking, or installing programs that need restarts. _________________ Big enough to scare you |

Yeah but this dont work 100% for me anyway.....
it gets stuck at windows is now safe to shut down now screen instead of actually turning itself off.... so its kinda pointless since i need to hit the power switch afterwards
same thing happens 2 you or not? _________________ AMD64 3200+

Neat the restart functions worked but I find this not usefull for me I just use the Task Manager to shut down anyhow. I few seconds doesn't matter to me. _________________ allyourbasearebelongtous |

ALT-F4 always worked for me....and in a properly set up modern system a quick tap of the power button says shutdown also. _________________ .

I should have mentioned.......it's for Windows XP, not 98 or older.......
Yeah, the reset button is handy.......but this actually does it the right way, just quicker. *wink wink nudge nudge* _________________ Big enough to scare you |

Yeah thats all very good but i have XP Pro, it works all im saying is that it doesnt shut down my pc it just leaves me at the screen saying
"windows is now safe to shut down"
Alt+f4 is fast but a shortcut would be faster |
