Hey guys, i have some BIG wav tracks i wanted to compress (basically to terrible quality) so i could play it off of a Xanga website. I used Adobe Audition to make 'embut now each track is like 50+mb and these need to be small enbough to stream off of dialup.... any ideas?

you can't compress WAV that much. The only way to really make your music files smaller is convert it into mp3 or any other format, such as RA, ogg or wma, etc. These files will make youru wav files much smaller. BTW, I think you would want to compress in lossless format as that gives a better sound quality.

Thanks for the reply! sound quality really isn't a big concern in this case - if i could get the bit rate down to like 20k (terrible quality) and have it stream through a dialup connection, i'd be OK with it. Are there any programs out there that can do that?
I know windows media encoder can, but is there anything else?

Creative has something. The software is called Media Source and it's used to transfer files onto my Mp3 player, but it also has an audio converter. I'll find a link to it in a sec, it's somewhere on www.nomadworld.com

I haven't used the converter, but I looked at the options and it has what you want.

do you really need to have the files in wav format? if you want a good compress while retain a fairly okay sound, real audio is usually a better choice. The files on rm is usually small and better for streaming.

I think nero can also

You can try Blaze media pro. You can get a trial version that can be used for 15 or 30 days or such....I think majorgeeks have it. It does quite a bit of this kind of work.

The best free program I have used to convert files is dbpoweramp. Unfortunately, the newest version has limitations, so get an oldest, free version here (scroll down).

Tons of plugins can be downloaded for this, so you can encode to .ogg, LAME .mp3 (default), .mp4, etc.
