dont use hibernate. Its not healthy for your puter. Either leave it running full tilt or shut it off.

gmoney, read this thread http://www.tweaknews.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=4680

What's the point of hibernation anyway? Just shut it down instead.

That's what save is for. And nobody knows much about it, because no one uses it...I used to on my old machine, but there was really no point. Now, my monitor turns itself off after an hour, and my comp runs full tilt all the time, or I turn it off.

And besides, if you're having problems with it...why not just turn it off?

It seems that this forum is more heavily slanted against those who use "hibernate" than it is againts Mac's!

No I wasn't trying to be smart, I am just trying to keep these forums cleaned up some. And yes, I did notice when you posted. If you delete your post, then add whatever it is you need to say, it is a new post and therefore people will see it as a new post again. So no need for a triple post...

But anyway since no one has replied much about hibernating try a search on google and see what you can come up with. I'm sure there are sites out there that have more info on it and if it acctually is useful.

Hibernation saves everything in the PCs memory to hard disk before the computer shuts down, when it comes out of hibernation mode it returns to the point you left it. The only downside is that ul have to w8 4 the PC to reboot before you can start working again but its a small price to pay for the good ul b doing 2 ur bank balance never mind the

enviroment

Do you guys know the enviromental costs of computers....

Actually, the computer itself does not draw the brut end of the power. It is the MONITOR that draws a ton of energy. The way to avoid being a tree-killer is to simply set your power save to go on after 10 minutes of inactiveness. If you've been sitting at your machine for ten minutes and haven't done anything.. then you deserve to have monitor shut off on you. =D

My 2c . . . take it at face value

Leaving your car in hibernation is kinda like starting your car early in the morning and letting it run until noon. Your components are constantly being given power. Its kinda like running your car 25000miles on the odometer, but the equivelant of 75000 on your motor.

No, I think you've got that wrong. When you hibernate the computer shuts off completely. You can unplug it from the wall if you want to. But when you start it back up the entire RAM that was saved when you hibernated gets restored so your computer returns to it's previous state. Say you have a bunch of apps open and an unsaved word document too. If you hibernate then everything gets saved to the HD. You can then unplug your PC, move it or do whatever then when you start it back up all your apps will be restored and your unsaved word document too exactly to the same state and mode of operation as when you sent your comp to hibernate.
What you're thinking of is Standby.

^^^^^^^ that is if your HDD comes back around as well. And there can be errors in the data as it is saved and restored. Hence my suggestion to not use hibernation and either shut your machine down or let it run.
