Try selecting that folder to scan in norton only... if all is good THEN try a full system scan.

AVG has a very good freeware scanner that many ppl who frequent here like. That may be able to clear up the issue, but may require you to uninstall the norton.

Is your norton fully updated? If not, DO IT!

Also, if you have the disc, boot your computer from it and do a scan that way...incase an application in windows is inhibiting the full scan. This shouild allow you to verify that all the files saved in that directory are kosher.

no problem and welcome to the forum!

ran system in safe mode deleted everything out of temp folder. did full scan everything going ok until 40,000 files later when again came to nearly a full stop ,the file was c:\recycler\s-1-5-21-1614895754-2111687655-1957994488-500\Dc12 tryed to track the file down to delete it but kept getting the message that this file could not be found. what exactly is this file?

do you run an anti-spyware app on a regular basis?
if you don't have it, Google for "Adaware SE", install, and run it.
be sure to click "check for updates" before scanning

i also suggest getting this nifty little program that blocks spyware from coming in instead of cleaning it once its in. Spyware Blaster, and switching over to Firefox

The first obvious question, since I know where that file is coming from........when you deleted stuff, did you empty your recycle bin?

the file was c:\recycler\s-1-5-21-1614895754-2111687655-1957994488-500\Dc12

That's a file in your recycle bin. Norton hangs on recycle bin files, it's notorious for that, but then again, if you've got it in the trash already, why not put it out to the curb?

Empty your recycle bin, then scan again, I'll bet the problem disappears. If you used Norton's AutoProtect recycle bin, I'd first suggest disabling it through Norton, then emptying that sucker. Using Norton's recycle bin protector is sorta like taking a crap in one toilet, then moving the results by hand to another toilet. Not pleasant, and usually not necessary.
