Anyone had any experience with this cooler? I have a Prescott cooler on my Northwood (for some reason, the northy won't start with the Zalman cooler I was using on my old 1.5), and it still runs hot.......40c normal, 47c under load. Sometimes up to 50c. Within specs, but makes me nervous.
Anyway, I can pick up the Jet 4 for $30, think it'll do a decent job? My Shuttle mobo has some caps very close to the cpu bracket, so some of the bigger coolers are out, they won't fit.

TH has one on his 2.8....I think the only problem fitting that hsf is the height...darn near fits inside the stock footprint other than that.

Ok, I'll admit that was a consideration.......
Since I don't have a credit card, CompUSA is my only choice around here for buying this stuff (off the shelf, anyway), and that's a two hour drive from here. Of what they offer, it seems to be the best option, and one of the cheaper ones. Good for my budget. _________________ Big enough to scare you |

Well, I picked it up today, and it works like a charm......dropped my temps 10 degrees C! Running 32-34 C idle, 42 C under load. Niiiiiiiiiice.
Only a couple of complaints, though.........first, the instructions are very vague. Like, which way does the thing point? I figured with the "engine intake" to the front, and I was right. Second, the bottom plate is covered with a nice, thick piece of vinyl covering, with a big note "REMOVE BEFORE USING". Great, except the glue they used stuck to the copper better than the plastic......10 minutes with the isopropyl alcohol and a rag to get the adhesive off the heatsink........and I don't mean just a little, I mean ALL of the adhesive. The plastic sticker is nice and clean though.......... And the fan controller.......I'm assuming they designed the front panel knob plate to fit CoolerMaster cases, but it's nowhere near deep enough to fit my generic plastic-bezel case. It stops a good inch before the 3.5" bay mounting holes...... Oh well, nothing a little duct tape didn't fix.
It's a sweet cooler, though, so far, I'm very happy. Even sounds sorta like figher jet at full throttle.......... _________________ Big enough to scare you |
