The New StarCraft, Great Game for LAN Party

Noticed you guys play a ton of starcraft, it is definitly a LAN classic.

Recently I bought a new game called Warhammer 40k (Dawn of War) and...well if you've got a computer good enough to run it, it's got the same Starcraft feel with updated looks and even some neat new features.

It's got 4 races to Starcrafts 3 but the races are ,strangely ,VERY similar considering they are actually based off of the Warhammer tabletop game. If you've played it you'll know what I mean. Space Marines = Terrans, Orks = Zerg, and Eldar = (the third race in SC, forgot lol). The fourth race is the evil twin of the Space Marines..the Chaos Space Marines. They look pretty much the same with a handful of different units but play alot alike.

Basically the jist of DOW is military supremacy. Almost NO resource management and you'll find yourself spending most of your time controling your units rather than instructing workers. Your units are squad based, meaning one marine unit consists of up to 10 marines and will always travel and fight together. Resources are aquired by taking control points at key locations throughout the map. The more key locations you control the better the resources flow, like I said the more dominant you are militarily the better you will do overall.

Graphics on this game are incredible, the 3D camera can zoom in to look the marines in the eyes or to see an overview of an area about 50 square yards. There is an unparalleled unit painter feature that allows you to paint your units with millions of colors, I've seen armies from pure black to barbie pink. Your teams badges and decals will also be customizable and will transfer to others in MP games. War fx are great, shooting artilary at an enemy squad, explodes the ground with a splash of debrise, sending the units flying 30 feet in all directions and leaving a crater in the ground. Vehicles and super units are scaled accurately, size is usually a good indication of how tough the unit is, the bigger they are the harder they are to kill.

There is so much more cool things about this game but I don't want go on forever, but I will say out of nearly all the RTS games that have come out since Starcraft, DOW comes closest to getting that great feel and quick yet strategic gameplay. I have to say I've always trusted the good folks at Relic since they did HOMEWORLD (one of the greatest stradegy games of all time) and this one is very fun as well. Give it a try.

Also Note: like most games the minimum requirements are much lower than what you need to really enjoy the game. My computer is above all requirements but still runs quite slow and with the graphics all very low. I would love to see this game running at full speed.
