I am getting ready to fire up a new system. Almost...that is.

I have a Swiftech pup, reservior, CPU HS, Chipset HS, and a BFG 6800 ultra WC with a Danger Den factor installed HS. I am vaccuum testing the cooling system with a auto vaccumm testor. IS this the right approach ?? Is vacuum testing going to give me the wrong results (i.e. not underpressure on the connections and fittings, pump) ?? Every fitting and Wye has been instpected, looks very tight. Does any one have any suggestions about putting negative pressure on the slide on compression fitting use on the Chipset HS ?

On the nippes which tread into the reservior I used pipe tape. Should I use pipe tape and pipe dope together ?

You're suggestions are appreciated.

Thanks

for the threaded connections just use teflon tape and that will be fine as long as you are installing it right.

To test a WC setup you should build it and then before powering on the computer you should run the water system for 24 hours to check for leaks.
Ideally you should be checking your water system outside your case but I know from experience that you cant always do this. I also know dont be in a rush to do things with you watercooling system as this can lead to spills on your equipment. That is not a fun time let me tell you.

One word of warning with using that DangerDen waterblock on your 6800. DangerDen says that you need to leak test it for at least 24 hours before installing it on your card. I have had one DangerDen waterblock leak on me in the past. And that was the only one that I have had leak out of all the brands that I use.

Good Luck and have fun!

I have been using this 1 for about a month and it is amazing, and for $71 dollars including shipping is a pretty good deal

So Weaz.......

and anyone else of course,

For the record, my system is almost Identical to your Sys #1Weaz. I totally support the idea of testing external of the box for 24 hours, that is the best and and safest way. I am entertaining the idea of testing the system in the box, but only if I can be assured that any leak will be controlled and not spray the electonics. Of course I will not have any of the components powered; just the pump will be going.

My more immediate concern is, now that I have the CPU heatsink and Chipset heatsink installed (Opps!) I am a little reluctant to pull them out again and test it the way you are suggesting. The main reason is for the number of times I would be reinstalling the heatsinks as referenced above. Do you think I can reinstall these heatsinks several times ? IS there damage that can occur ? Yes, you can assume that I do the installations VERY carefully, and I am getting GOOD at it. SO is it a problem re-attaching the heatsinks to do this test? I am using the Swift Tech Chipset and CPU heatsinks.I suppose practice makes perfect, Eh!

Also, do you know an easier way to attach the Chipset heatsink with those funky hooks and springs ? It's a bitch to keep the heatsink from floating around as you tightening the darn nuts and position the hook and spring....Whew ! And what about those tube inserts that stick into the Chipset heatsink? Is there any way to remove and reinstall those? They appear permanent once they are installed.

Your help is appreciated.. Thanks

Mite be slightly off topic but what case are you using for your watercooled system? Do you just dont plug in any fans you have or do you use both to get super chilled?

Yes, I am salivating to start it up. Just need to test run the water system tightness check (fingers crossed) then, Yea ! Let the good time roll....

You see Weaz, it is like you rSystem #1 setup. Overclocking is around the bend, but only after the confidence is there after system stabilization.

SInce you have everything installed and you feel comfortable with your install of the tubing then I say test the system as it is.

And to get those inserts out when you remove the tubing from the swiftech waterblock, you have to just mess with them to get the out. You can also remove the "clip" that holds the hose in there as well. I know this from using a swiftech gpu waterblock, where those clips had to be removed in order to be able to install the mounting hardware.

And good luck on that system it should rock I know mine does. I just upgraded to a 6800 U too so it looks like your system is pretty close to the same thing. One thing you need to pay attention to is the PSU. The one I would suggest for you is the PC Power and Cooling TurboCool 510. Its the one I use and have no trouble powering my system.
