Vantec Tornado question...

Ok, so I have a Thermaltake SP-94 heatsink, Artic Silver thermal paste, and a Vantec Tornado CPU fan... the combo frickin' rocks. I idle at 25C case and 26C CPU, and after about 4 hours of Full Spectrum Warrior at full resolution, I peaked with a max of 29C case and 37C CPU. So, basically, i am VERY pleased with my cooling situation.

Here's the problem... with my PC idling at 26C, i don't need it cranked to full throttle 24/7. If any of you read my posts in the overclocking section, it turns out there's a chance my Tornado is what was causing the extreme voltage flux and otherwise screwed up my lovely DFI board (as well as 80% of my hearing). So, i bought a Vantec Nexus fan controller, and according the the specs it should be able to handle the voltage that my Tornado draws... now, I am not by any means a dumb guy, but when i hook it up to the controller I am unable to adjust the fan speed, it's just balls-to-the-wall even on low. Um, is there some trick to hooking this thing up that I am missing? I plug my molex to the PSU, and the fan connector directly to the fan controller... is that wrong? lol

Wow, that was altogether way too much info. Allow me to paraphrase: "How in the hell do you hook a Tornado to a Nexus fan controller?"

haha lmao, that sounds right.... Make shure that all the power wires to the fan controller are plugged in. My hardcano has 2 different plugs for power and doesnt work unless both are plugged in... try turning on the computer cause a lack of power would prolly make it stay... not going.... :)=b im not really shure dude,

Ok, let's run this back... I have to have my computer "turned on"? It's supposed to be plugged in to something? I thought the Thermaltake PSU I have was a fusion PSU.

yes
you need to get a converter to convert the 4 pin molex to the 3pin fan controller,
the thing your connecting to the fan controller is just the speed sensor
watch out though, i've blown two channels on my nexus using tornados

crap... that's what I was worried about. The specs on NewEgg SAY that the Nexus I bought can handle the tornado, but then two people I've talked to (including a tech at DFI) say that the Tornado chews those controllers out. Ok, while I love my Tornado, mehaps there's another QUIETER fan that I could invest in that will still move a solid amount of air? Or I could go water-cooled.. lol

Good airflow, and pretty quiet

What they said. I have a Nexus, and I like it. Due for a change, though, I'm getting bored with the look.

Not sure why the Tornado would be blowing the controller, though, it's not drawing THAT much more power than a standard CPU fan, and I had a Zalman cooler (the fan-looking one with the 80mm fan) hooked up to mine for over a year with no problems. I was using a high-power fan for that, rather than the stock Zalman fan. My only gripe about the Nexus is it's hard to read the display, unless you're right in front of it.
