OK, i just got an Aspire X-Navigator Case. I'm probably being an idiot, but there are two, two wire connections, output and input, for the fan throttle. I daisy chain the 5 fans, one fan has a free female, the last fan i connected to output, the input i hook to 4 pin molex from the PSU.
I power on, nothing. Does the motherboard need to be in there? I mean, shouldn't the PSU start up? Or am I @#$@$'n the fan power up so much that its tripping a breaker, or something.
The PSU comes with the case, and has a big switch on the back, and a throttle.
Any ideas for me? |

Motherboard must be in to start the psu....
Actually, you can connect two pins to get around it, but really you need the mobo. _________________ .

what do you mean, connect the two, two wire connections to each other? they have 4 pin molex females, with only a black and yellow wire in half the molex.
And should the psu be able to power up without a mobo? I mean whats the switch for then, on the back?
And, if the mobo gets power from the psu, how can it control the mobo? |

yeah without the mobo installed, your psu cannot turn on without some tinkering. the switches on the back of psus are just to stop the flow of electricity, incase your working side your pc.
**also its not a good idea to daisy chain fans, i suggest getting a fan controller. |

Yes, you need the mobo in to turn the PSU on. Reason being that the mobo has circuitry that will either stop the PSU from coming on if there's a power problem, and the mobo needs to send the signal to the PSU to "turn on/off" when Windows tells it to. There are two pins on the mobo connector that can be jumped to allow the PSU to turn on (these are the pins that the mobo uses to control the signal), but there really isn't any need to do that........just put the mobo in. _________________ Big enough to scare you |

Yup, you'll have to short pins 13 and 14 together in order to do it without the psu. _________________ JayDubya aka JW Jay JD ^> ﺵ |

without the PSU??? or without the motherboard?? I think it would be pretty hard to short pins 13 and 14 if you didnt have the psu _________________ I tweaked and it tweaked back! So I Tweaked some more!
