Anyone know what the problem is with steam?? I swear to god it messes up like 50% of the time i try to use it!! I havn't been able to play HL2 for the past 2 days - it logs into my account, says "preparing to play HL2" and then i get this stupid message that says "this game is currently unavailable. Please try again at another time". 2 days now!!!! any ideas on how to fix it?? _________________ DFI Nforce 4 SLI-DR

Never had this problem.
I would suggest you either reinstall it or you contact steam via email with proof of purchase and screen shots of your problem, that will speed the process up as they will end up asking you for it in the end. _________________ »4 RS«»1Ж «»1 DENE«»1 FREAKIN LAME OH«»1 MONEY MONEY«

Yeah I can't tell if I love Steam or just kind of dislike. I mean I've never had any major problems with it, but it does force you to do things you may not want to do sometimes, which is annoying. _________________ Love Is Not Enough... |

Well, it may not be the best solution but it seems to work well. Load up all the games you want from steam and take your computer offline.
There are alot of little annoyances associated with steam. Good idea - bad in practice. _________________ JayDubya aka JW Jay JD ^> ﺵ |

When you look at it from Valves perspective, its a very good piece of software...and be fair, as long as you have the legit copy of the game, it does a good job. _________________ »4 RS«»1Ж «»1 DENE«»1 FREAKIN LAME OH«»1 MONEY MONEY«

ok...I hate STEAM too
I'm getting this "Warning"
"There is a problem with your local game files... Game files will now be downloaded from Steam"
OK or Cancel
clicking OK just brings up the same warning after about 3 seconds
I can play HL 1 ok, but HL 2 and CS:S are screwed _________________ Yeah....... ok |

Try deleting the clientregistry.blob file. I know it helped Yoshida when he was having problems.
Either that or you might have to uninstall steam and download the games again
It also seems that PolarPyro had his steam account stolen. I don't know all the details but he was too lazy to post about it. _________________ JayDubya aka JW Jay JD ^> ﺵ |

Well...I didn't Delete the file, but I renamed it to "clientregistry.~blob"
no luck, steam updates, then asks for my password, then I get the same message
has anyone had to re-install HL2 yet? any problems validating a second time?
looks like this is my next step _________________ Yeah....... ok |

Since you bought the damn game you should be able to validate as many times as you want.
What if you are forced to re-install the game several times because Windows goes FUBAR therefore you need to be able to validate again and again, everytime you re-install, right? _________________

I think installing the game for a second time may involve you needing the code they sent you when you first installed the game under your CD key. _________________ »4 RS«»1Ж «»1 DENE«»1 FREAKIN LAME OH«»1 MONEY MONEY«

You might be able to d/l the game via steam. if thats the case, all you should need is your username and password _________________ JayDubya aka JW Jay JD ^> ﺵ |

yeah, im not too fond of steam at the moment. i bought the cd (retail) version of hl2, since i plan on upgrading the hd's soon anyways. i expected to just type in the cdkey and have it registered and be set. i didnt know that steam NEEDED to be run concurrently w/ the game in the first place, ontop of having to have the software validate that the cd's in the drive at the same time, since obviously it doesnt require you to when you d/l it. i understand valve's p.o.v. but does it really need 3 different ways to validate that its a legit copy?? bahhh
(and yes, i know whining won't get me anywhere, but still... lol) _________________ Asus P5W DH (bios 1407)

Valve also needs to realize that there are still a few people who live in the country and are on 56k, and therefore something like Steam is beyond rediculous for them.. _________________
