I'm sorry but I'm less than impressed with HLDM. Only two maps with the official release? This, of course, comes in addition to horrible lag with games including more than 10 players. I've never seen lag in CS:S like this. Granted the game play is pretty fun, it's not really that frantic/quick. UT2004 makes it look granny slow - not that that's a bad thing though... I played a lot of Rainbow Six back in the day.
I think HLDM is pretty fun right now, especially because the gravity gun and engine are so fresh to us. But considering the glaring lack of variety in the gameplay, not to mention maps, I don't think HLDM will come even close to cutting it unless Valve patches the hell out of it - which is certainly a possibility.
I'm just holding my breath for Day of Defeat: Source. I'm downright obsessed with the original DoD, I've been playing it for years and it still hasn't gotten old. _________________ DTW

oh yeah, cant compete with UT2004 or Q3 for speed of gameplay...but the issues with maps and net code will be fixed soon enough. It will become more popular. _________________ »4 RS«»1Ж «»1 DENE«»1 FREAKIN LAME OH«»1 MONEY MONEY«

Speaking for the single player, I like the fact that its not as fast as UT2k4, Doom3, and other fps's. It's fun to see a well thought out fps in terms of storyline. Having some of the "slower" parts of the game, makes the more intense sections seem even better that if the game's speed was continually at full speed.
Don't get me wrong though, I still absolutely love UT and its a game I can always go back to. |

I'm not sure I follow you with the storyline... which is all but non-existent. I understand they're desire to set up a bang up finale in HL3... but absolutely no specifics? The amount of time that elapsed between Black Mesa, what Gordon did during that time, and why they're fighting this "evil empire" like force are all completely unexplained short of some basic assumptions that the player can make - kinda annoying.
Secondly, Id have to agree about teh game speed - its just about right. Not tactical shooter slow, but not UT fast - and certainly not in a horrible mix like with HALO, not slow enough to be based on precision but not fast enough to be, well, exciting.
Doom3 I actually thought was a little on the slow side. The original Dooms were definitely faster, not to mention more original in their gameplay.
I'm sure they'll patch HLDM to hell so the lag and lack of gameplay are fixed by and large - but as it stands HLDM is a sad sad endeavor. _________________ DTW
