Well, its my birthday thursday and with some money i expect getting, im going to be buying some chrome feet for my car:

and I found some deals on 2 choices of rims, Right now i have just stock 14" rims on it, and I found some nice 14" 80 spoke rims that would fit on my car, and I also found some great 18" 100 spoke rims, and my question is, since the 18" rims are generously bigger than the ones i have on now, would I be able to have them installed without modding the car at all? ex. raising the car? Because if I do, i may just go with the 14"s, I'll be sure to post pics after winter when i get them installed.

Most tires for those 18s will be of a low profile design, allowing you to to put them on your car with minimal interferance problems. Any good tire/wheel store can give you the info you need to make your decision. Don't forget about tire width.

good luck!

It is all about the finished diameter of the tire on the rim. You will need to know
the diameter of your current tire & rim -- measure from floor to top of tire, now
go to tire dealer and ask them what the diameter of various 18" tires would be
when mounted on the rims you like. If they are within a couple of inches it might work. try to stay away from tires with a real low profile ( the distance from the bottom of the rim to the floor) as they will take away ride quality, If it is more than a couple of inches you will need to do some serious measuring
of wheel well clearance, turning wheel to left & right looking for fender clearance, looking above to check for other things etc. Good luck

Exactly. You need to figure out the diameter size of the wheel/rim. If you go to a local tire store, they should be able to tell you if the 18"s will fit, but you WILL need new tires for those too. There is a chance that your old tires will fit the 14"s.

Also, the 18"s have a pretty good chance of fitting with low pro's, but when you turn, your tires might rub against the wheel well. I don't have an olds delta to measure right now =P

Here is a tire and rim difference calculator.

http://miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html

Also, don't go with spokes, too ghetto fabulous on your car.

according to Nates neat calculator it should be doable with 205/30-18s or 205/40-18s if you have a bit of clearance. And yeah, spoked rims are a bit too gheto for my taste but hey, whatever turns your wheel...

If that is the case, don't do the 18's You don't weant that second number under 45 AT THE LOWEST. Learn from my mistakes. I have been through two sets of tie-rods due to my damn 40 profiles. You never know ho important tires are until you get the wrong size for your suspension. LOL. Tryu to keep the profile around 50. Its large enough to remain comfortable and reduce shock to your suspension, but low enough ot have performance qualities and stylish looks. Especially if you go with something like 195 wide or better. Idealy for your car. I would say 195/50/R17. Would look pimpin.

yeah good advice zf, now ill most likely go with 17"s

as for ghettoness, the only spoked rims that look ghetto are the deep dished ones that stick out like an extra half a foot, and im not gettin em. also just wondering

will having chrome rims on in the winter hurt the finish? ive seen rims that go bad in winter, and they werent plated.

for starters, the "profile" depends upon the tire width....so a 50 may be suitable or may not [example: 225 60 - 16 tires are 225 mm wide (at the widest piont, so not always the tread surface), the sidewall is 60% of that width tall (135mm sidewall), and the wheel size is 16"] . A general rule of thumb would be that the lower profile tire and the larger rim size equates to more expensive tires that will ride stiffer, corner better, and wear less economically.

As far as clearance goes, you could probably get by w/ a 205 width at max. I think 195 or 185 was stock on that car. Also, I don't recommend getting 17" rims. To do that with a 205 width tire, it would have to be 205/35-17....which will set you back a pretty penny..also not exceedingly common. I would say stick to 16's or 15's where you could get a more commonly sized tire for less money... lets remember..this thing is your daily driver...so it needs to be livable and its "shoes" needn't exceed its total value.

To the issue of winter, keeping the aluminum wheels on is doable as long as you keep them waxed to protect from salt pitting and keep of curbs....personally i'd rock the steelies all winter and have some e-brake parking lot action worry free.

Yeah I dunno about that Sally. 17s can fit fine on that thing. 17.5 wide rim. Should fit without a problem, I know I have the size on the Golf. But again, to each their own. Its is completely up to the owner of the vehicle. Go to tirerack.com That place has anything and everything you could ever want, and is most likely the cheapest place to find it.

The only way 17.5" wide rims will fit on that car is if they stick out the side by 8+"

Also be sure to look at the offset and bolt pattern of each prospective wheel that you look at.

Holy shiznit! A 17.5" wide wheel? Running on what? Cheater slicks? I think you mean 7.5". But yeah, it can be difficult to squeeze bigger wheels in such a fwd car. And, personally, is not worth it. Unless you plan on painting it, and possibly doing some actual performance/handling upgades- it will just be a ghetto Oldsmobile with no style.

As far as choosing a tire to go with the setup, Sally explained it best. Bigger wheels are going to mean more $$$ in rubber. Is it going to be worth spending that much on that car? To each his own I guess.

As far as the original post is concerned- I'd go with the 14" 80 spoke set. I think that would look much better on that car than the big ones. Add some nice whitewalls and it'd be decent.

Quoted because whitewalls are old school and still look great. Just get yourself a 75 monte carlo too

Personaly I would go with 16"s and the whitewalls, that would look slick and you should be able to fit 195/50-16"s on there, then it would look pimp and still ride quite well

What again is the stock size of your tires??? Is it 185/60-14?
If so, then Karl's size would be a bit on the tall side.....You would be best going with a 195/45-16 for the sake of rubbing....which still COULD happen.

I think hes gonna get some 14"s in soon. I still think that'd be the best look for the car. When you get the rims too big, it just doesn't look quite right.

250-75R14's? Are those light truck tires? Cot damn! Sounds like balloons on there. But, if those don't rub- you shou have no problems what-so-ever with any of the above mentioned sizes.

NO FREAKIN JOKE THEY ARE HUGE! Are you sure they aren't 205/75-14's

hmmm, if my math is right, 250/75-14's would stand like 28" tall...
