HL2, days nearly hours away...

The release of HL2 is imment. I know most of you guys have been antipating it's release almost as much as me, if not more. And in a few short days the world will be playing it (Of course I have to wait for it to be shipped to me, but a few more days won't hurt). I was going through my daily check of websites I visit and found this http://www.gamespot.com/features/6112889/index.html on the Planet Half-Life page. It really is a great read and pretty lengthy. It did rekindle my hype for the game though. So if you have an hour or so

to spare, give it a read.

Wow didn't think someone as big as Best Buy would be selling it early. Doesn't really matter much, won't be activated until Tuesday.

You have to have an internet connection for ANY version of the game you purchase, including retail. So yes, even if you buy a retail version of the game, it still won't let you play it until Valve "unlocks" the game. Which they could do earlier than Tuesday, but that would piss off Vivendi. And that would be a bad thing to do, since they are already having "problems".

My DSL was out for about 2 weeks once, and I got really mad 'cause I couldn't play Half Life 1, because I had signed off and exited Steam

Yeah no kidding. It would me too. I don't really understand why there are doing that. I mean what's the point? Besides letting them truly "release" it on the date they want, and making it pointless for people to buy it earlier.l

I am pretty damn pissed...as you all said you can buy it and still have to wait to play it.....well I bought it excited as hell to play it, ran to my PC to install it....and low and behold Ihave to wait...this is stupid. I am very annoyed.....but I can wait a few more days!

I don't like the idea of buying a retail game and not being able to play it, period.
I wonder how many ppl will demand a refund. They should get it also, the software is defective, isn't it.
I'm sure Valve has looked into this and has some method of post install activation w/o steam connection. if not...hmmmmm.

Don't think I'll be buying HL2 till I know what's up....keep on posting, let me know.

Its a good idea, but it can really suck for alot of people. It does help keep piracy down though.

So...if I buy it, I can't load it on my compy....play my one pass as single player, then give it to ÿ, to online the crap out of it? cause they will see it as two compies....Or what if I wanted to sell it after I played my one pass...will it not activate again...I do have the right to sell my licensing? These are the questions I guess I'm asking.

Well, i know steam requires a username and password. I have my steam account loaded on 3 computers with a few problems. You obviously can't play the same game online simultaneously, however, you can play a two seperate mods online at the same time. If i wanted to sell the game, i'd have to give them my steam account and password.

thats what single player is for....those times when you dont want to.....or can't connect online

It'll all work out, just wait for the game to be unlocked.

And to answer the worries about not being able to play single player offline. You can choose to connect to Steam ONCE to verify with them, and after that it won't chcek again and you can play SP without being connected to the internet. I'm pretty sure I read that somewhere....

Anway it will all work out, don't let this discourage you from buying probably the best game ever made

I installed it after I bought it,then I had to connect to steam to preload the rest of HL2 so it will be available to me asap....BS if you ask me. Start the retail sail day before everyone can play or something......whatever. Still gonna be a kick @$$ game.
