dont be giving WRONG info just because you want to flame a product!

I'm rude? You are going around giving bad and improper information about all kinds of products. You are a fanboy. You badmouth everything that you don't like. Some people can't tell that it is a joke. You are blaitanly steering people in the wrong direction and confusing them.
You say my post is unecessary? OK . . . . Your post is necessary?!?
If you are going to tell a joke, make sure people know it is a JOKE.
127C degrees is WAY too high for any graphics card. it is by NO MEANS normal for the 6800U. If you say that, people may think its ok and can fry their video card and possibly START A FIRE! Would you like to be blamed for that? or have TN blamed for that? We're trying to keep people safe here man.
I'm terribly sorry if this is inappropriate to discuss this here. From now on we should take care of it with PM's and quit whoring this thread.
80C is to high for idle let alone 127C for full load. NUFF SAID. _________________ JayDubya aka JW Jay JD ^> ﺵ |

Its all cool now man. We just need to be careful what we say. Its good to have opinions and favorites in this business. It keeps the competition up and prices down.
Hmm, never noticed one of our mod's avatar's was so big before. Maybe we can page Sally to help out with that. He did a good job with Zhenya's.
anyway. Back on topic. That card is deffective and you should get a replacement ASAP. Tell that guy that you found the max temps to be about 90C. Maybe you can get a different cooler for the gpu. Plain and simple, something needs to be fixed pretty quick. _________________ JayDubya aka JW Jay JD ^> ﺵ |

| personally I think the tech guy you talked to knows theres something wrong with the card, and just doesnt want to replace it for you. If he said hold onto it for a while and if it burns out he'll give you a knew one, maybe you should try to help the process out a little bit and burn it asap so that guy will do his job. just my 2 cents. |

So far, with the little time I've had, I've only played CS:S, and although the temp does soar to above 110C, I was able to play for a few hours without a hitch.
But from all you comments, I am now considering this car as defctive. I will get it fixed. Now I'm just hoping that they'll give me a substitue untill the fixed card gets back form the manifacturer.
I've been having really bad luck with video cards latly. An FX5600 just burned out a month ago (on a different computer), and I found out the place I bought it don't respect their warrany very much (it was 10 months old out of a 12 months warrany). Since they weren't selling FX5600 anymore (only FX5700) and the card was 10 months old, they were only willing to offer me a RMA'd card that was fixed. It was a GeForce 4200. Or a very small store credit that would even buy me a GF4MX200. I took the credit and got myself a Zalman 5.1 Surround Headphones. What a mistake. They sound so crap, worse than a $10 stero headset.
Anyway, thanks for all your advice! I'm gonna ask then to RMA it (they said they would be willing to send it if I really wanted to). I hope I can get a PCI-Express substitue so that I can at least keep using my computer. |

Don't take that crap. You have a warranty for a reason. They can get that card in anytime they wish. If they don't honor the warranty, you should report them to the better business beareau. If a card craps out, you should get an identical one back.
Hopefully they get you taken care of here. They MUST help you obtain a card that works properly. _________________ JayDubya aka JW Jay JD ^> ﺵ |

Dude, FYI, look at his location....although he's not in the third world or anything...retail laws and practices are different. There prolly is some type of agency or process there that he can go through. _________________ .

DOH!
I'm still thinking US policy. You probably still could have RMA'ed it to nVidia, but that would probably take some time. _________________ JayDubya aka JW Jay JD ^> ﺵ |

The place I got my computer (and the X600) is not the place I got the FX5600. The FX5600 place was, as I later found out, notorious for their bad service. They are a private importer so they aren’t backed up by the large importers.
The place I got my computer and X600 respects warranties with no problem. My concern wasn't if they will or will not honor it, but rather should I or should I not go through the whole unpleasant (and sometimes long) process of RMAing it. |

i know where i live the retailer is not responisable for the manufacturers warrenty, after you walk out the door, it's yours and the retailer has no obligations whatsoever to the customer. Any problems have to be taken to the manufacturer. Alot of retailers will help with this though, in the name of customer service. _________________ If time is of the essence,

So the guy called me this morning, saying he made some inquiries as promised. He said the GPUs can work up to 150C. Pfffffff. So I told him that the computer freezes after playing games for a few minutes (which it doesn't, I only got it to freeze on rare occasions). I asked him that if I do return it, do you have any replacement card so I can keep using the computer. He said, sure, but not a very good one. I said I don't care. He told me he could give me a Geforce4 MX. I asked him, well do you have any PCI-Express cards?!? He was like "errrr..... no, we don't have any. Well, keep using it normally. I'll make some more inquiries."
At this point I figured I was better off talking to a brick wall. There was no point in continuing the affair with him. I was gonna go over there and give them back the card for repair.
Three minutes later he called me back and said "Well, bring the card and well RMA it. We'll also give you a FX5300 till it gets back." I went over, gave them the card and got a shiny new 3D Club GeForce FX5300 PCX (which is just a bridged FX5200, the VGA BIOS even says it's a FX5200). I saw him unwrap it out of a new sealed box, so I know it's new. Under warranty they aren’t obliged to give me any substitute card while it's away for repair, let alone open a brand new retail box just to keep me going.
It wasn't really their fault that the card was defective. They RMAed it as they should have. They even gave me a brand new substitute. Except for the technician’s sheer stupidity, I believe they handled it rather well. Of course we'll have to see the outcome, but that's more to do with the importer and/or ASUS.
On a side note, I am really glad I didn't go for the 3D Club brand to save quite a few bucks. Their RAMDACs are so s***, the screen is fuzzy at 1152x768. They even had a "Powered by 3D Club" PC case sticker together with the vid card - I wonder who would shame himself by sticking that on his case. I hope I won't be with this card for long. |

Not perfect customer service, but darn good! The fx5200 was pretty much a flop of a card. It was rushed onto the market plaqued with flaws. Going from an x800 to the fx5200 would be a world of difference - in a bad way

Yeah, it's quite a downgrade. But I'm just using it for 2D till my card gets back. I still think it was rather nice of them to open a new retail box just so I can have a working card (even though I'm sure they'll sell it as part of a system for the full retail price - they did keep the box, disc and manual).
What I can't figure out is if the FX5300 is labeled 5300 and even the driver says its 5300, why didn't they bother changing it to 5300 in the VGA BIOS (they left it 5200). Yeah I know it's the same core, but it just seems odd to me that they're selling it as a new model, and taking all the effort of re-branding it, while leaving this out.
The only plus about this card is that it has passive cooling (a single oversized heatsink that covers both the GPU and the PCIe bridge chip). My computer is somewhat quieter now (even though the GPU fan, the CPU fan and the exhaust fan are all PWMed according to temp - which is usually very low). |
