Welp, 28.12cfm is not an acceptable air flow rate for any P4 or Athlon.
That fan definitely needs to be upgraded to at least 35cfm. _________________ Owner & Administrator

^Agreed, your airflow is too low, you should look at some of the hsfs Wease suggested. and make sure you don't have 2 much thermal paste on as this inhibbits heat transfer, paper thin is too much, you should be able to almost make out the writing on the CPU through it. _________________ Phenom II x4 955 @ Stock

I noticed you don't have a Blowhole....Adding one will also help remove hot air that gathers in the top of the case _________________ Yeah....... ok |

OK peeps here's the update. BTW Thank you evryone who made sugestions, considered all of them to solve my dilema).
1. Replaced cpu fan with a Thermaltake adjustable fan (Max cfm: 75 @ 4800 rpm)
2. Installed a thermal probe with three sensors.(placed 1 as close to cpu on bottom of heatsink w/o actually touching the cpu)
3. Reseated heatsink and reapplied Artic silver 5 (had to in order to place thermal probe)
4. Installed a pci slot exhaust fan.
5. Clocked cpu @ 3203 mhz w/ Vcc @ 1.58 (abit eq reading)
1.readings after running Prime 95 for 2 1/2 hours Abit EQ sys temp 111.2 F/ 44C thermal probe: 100F/38C
2. CPU temp Abit EQ 158.9 F /70.5C Thermal Probe 126F/52C
After seeing such a big diffrence in temps i went out and puchased a thermometer because i thought "no way that probe could be right!" I taped the remaining sensor to the thermometer and the temps on the thermal probe were 2 degrees above the thermometers reading (2 degrees Farenheight less in Celcious)
Conclusion: Either the Abit EQ temps are way off or both the thermal probe and thermometer i bought are a peice of $hit lol. |

I hope you didn't place a probe underneath the heatsink and on top of the heat spreader. _________________ Owner & Administrator

| No, i put it on the bottom side of the heatsink as close to the heatsink as possible. (Not in between the heatsink and the cpu's heatsink) (Just followed the directions in the diagram) |

I don't get the last post you are stating the temps have gone up since you have installed the new cooler or have they gone down? _________________ Owner & Administrator

| Installed a new fan on heatsink not the whole unit . Cpu temps have gone up about 1.5 degrees @ full load but i have clocked it up another 100 mhz and raised the voltage .05. But i do belive that changing the fan improved my temp by around 2 degrees. Bottom line i think that the Abit EQ readings are incorrect |

Well if its running stable then it would seen that those temps are ok, its a bit strange _________________ Phenom II x4 955 @ Stock

What I would like to know is the temperatures when the system is at stock speeds.
That is the only true way to compare. _________________ Owner & Administrator

Cant rember when it was stock lol think was the first and only day i got it(About a year or so ago). But if i recall temps were always a bit hi using Abit EQ only when i went past 3.0 did those hi temps begin to concern me, but like i said reading the thermals i installed and using a diffrent thermometer aside from the thermals it seems to me that the Abit EQ is just giving my much higher temps than what the cpu actually is. (at least that is what the thermal probes are telling me) _________________ My Rig: P D 955 XE @ 4.35 (Stable), Abit AW8-Max mobo,1GB Patriot DDR2 1000 (2x512), EVGA 7800 GTX 512 74GB Raptor , 250 GB 16MB WD, 300 GB 16 MB WD |

this is also a 2.6B chip
in my use of these they did seem to read higher than the C series. It comes down to the micro code for the different series of cpu's. _________________ I tweaked and it tweaked back! So I Tweaked some more!

How about you type less and set your setting to stock speeds and give me the temperature readings that I asked last time. _________________ Owner & Administrator

stock temps are as flollows: IDLE: AbitEQ sys 36 cpu 45.5 ,Thermal probe sys 30 cpu 32 LOAD: Abit EQ sys 39 cpu 59.5 Thermal probe sys 32 cpu 43 (loads where read after about an hour and 1/2 of prime95 running set at max heat and power consumption)
I have a thermal probe, plus another thermometer and both their temp readings are almost identical to each other and Abit EQ is higher than both thermometers. Given the small distance from the probe and the heat spreader might me couple of degrees higher than what the thermal reading is. After i started this thread i did some research on the Abit IC7-Max3 and saw reports where the board was giving as much as 16 degrees above other probe readings(cant rember where since i saw so many all saying the board was giving inaccurate temp readings) I think it is safe to say that Abit's EQ temp readings are incorrect on my board because i doubt that both thermometers reading the same temps +/- 1 % could be the ones giving the wrong temp.
BTW Nathan hope my typing doesnt bother you since u asked me to do less of it _________________ My Rig: P D 955 XE @ 4.35 (Stable), Abit AW8-Max mobo,1GB Patriot DDR2 1000 (2x512), EVGA 7800 GTX 512 74GB Raptor , 250 GB 16MB WD, 300 GB 16 MB WD |

thermal probe readings look fine but not the Abit EQ readings . Abit EQ readings read higher temps than the probe when my CPU is overclocked to 3.2 Ghz _________________ My Rig: P D 955 XE @ 4.35 (Stable), Abit AW8-Max mobo,1GB Patriot DDR2 1000 (2x512), EVGA 7800 GTX 512 74GB Raptor , 250 GB 16MB WD, 300 GB 16 MB WD |

We have gone over the fact that the Abit P4 motherbaords do read high. That was a known fact. _________________ I tweaked and it tweaked back! So I Tweaked some more!

^^Indeed. We've seen abit p4 mobo's with C class processors at 64C in abit EQ. It seems that value could be off between 7 and 14C. _________________ JayDubya aka JW Jay JD ^> ﺵ |

You really need to relax about the probe.
There can be a 10 degre difference in under an inch.
Those temperatures are perfectly fine for that processor and they are not reading high. _________________ Owner & Administrator

a hair would barely fit from thr probe to the heat spreader _________________ My Rig: P D 955 XE @ 4.35 (Stable), Abit AW8-Max mobo,1GB Patriot DDR2 1000 (2x512), EVGA 7800 GTX 512 74GB Raptor , 250 GB 16MB WD, 300 GB 16 MB WD |
