I have a 2.6 ghz P4 533 FSB and an ABIT IG7-Max3 Mobo. II am Oc'd @ 3103 mhz and abit EQ is showing 45 C idle and 68.5 (using prime 95 for 24 hrs to get max temp) under full load. My sys temp never goes above 39C @ full load. I think tthe CPU temps are inacurate since i removed the side cover and placed my fingers on the cpu heatsink as close to the cpu as possible and the heatsink feels just a bit warm to the touch. I would suppose that a cpu temp of 68.5C would make the heatsink hot enough so that you would not be able to keep you fingers on it right? (heat sink has been perfectly seated and i used Atric Sliver 5 so heat sink setting is not an isue) I was wondering if there are i am not the only one with this problem on these awesome Abit boards? Also wonder if the CPU was @ 68.5C would a properly seated heatsink be alot hotter than just a bit warm

abits do read higher than is normal but that does seem a bit high
but a thermometer in the case, to find out what the real case temp is, and that should give you an idea of what the real cpu is...

Your system temp is too high. Should be 28- 30 in an avg. room. What kind of
case, fans, and heatsink-fan are you using? EQ reports accurate sys. temps
and 8-10 C too high on cpu temps. My similar system is 29 sys. 50 cpu under
load and slightly overclocked. You may need more air running through your case.

Voltage on the cpu is 1.54 (Abit EQ reading) I have 6 case fans (3out 3 in). And like i said heat sink is seated perfectly. And my sys temp of 39 was only after runnning Prime95 for the whole weekend w/o and errors @ 3102.3 Mhz i did read today some reveiws that the abit board that i have has had over temp reading as much as 13-14 C higher than what the cpu temp really is (dont know if that is my situation but i surely hope so) I posted some benchmarks on my 6800 GT VGA in a diffrent post and seems that my scores arent as bad as i thought (http://www.tweaknews.net/forum/viewtopic.php?p=44788#44788)
I will get a new processor this week ( 3.2C thanks guys for helping make up my mind lol) and see if temps on Abit EQ still read hi on my new cpu. Thinking of getting a Vapochill also so i wont have to worry about cpu temps. If i do i will take my 2.6 to breakdown just to see how hi i can get it before i put in the new processor lol) i'll keep all updated

the 2.53's did run a bit warm too. So with that board and your cpu you are fine for the time being. We well check again when you get that 3.2c installed.

A case temperature of 39c speaks volumes.

That is way to high for an internal case temperature.

^^ Agreed you should not be over 32-34 and you should be aiming at 28-30 under full load, although I suspect that if you had been running prime95 for 24hrs then your hadr disk/s would have a bit to do with your temps too. It sounds like you need better airflow in your case. What is your fan config?

My sys Temp durring regular game play (Doom 3) reaches 32-35 depending how warm it is in my inhouse office CPU reads 64C after a couple of hours of game playing ( I still hope i am getting an inaccurate reading since 64C is quite hot)

Just recheck your temps after you install the new cpu. And what heatsink are you using?

I dont rember if i mentioned but i am getting very hot temps from my BFG 6800 also hitting as hi as 84C. I am guessing that may becontributing to my hi sys temps but not really sure.

its a catch-22 if the case temp is high it will cause your hardware to run hotter thus causing the case temp to rise.

So here you need to look at your case cooling. As it doesnt seem to be working properly. You say you have three each intake/exhaust. Where are they located at in the case. List each one. And what are the ambient temps that you are working with as well. Because if you are sucking hot air into the case you arent going to be able to cool anything that way.

true...and more fans don't always help.
Placement and turbulants inside the case are more important.
I had to replace a vid board last week on an old p3 that they had worried about the cpu cooling, but had ignored the gpu, which had passive cooling.
It was just in a dead spot in the case, getting really hot.

What heatsink are you using and are you using the standard thermal pad on the heatsink?

I dont know how the performance is of said heatsink but it might be worth a shot on trying a different one when you get the new cpu. That thing was hard to track down as there was no hits for it on google. The only place I found anything was at Ultra Products.

It would also be a good idea to use a thermal probe to see the actual temperature of the case.

Any information on the heatsink fan airflow?

also, how many cfms are the case fans you have installed?

the fan on the heatsink provides 28.12 cfm

here is the link to the page that has info on it
http://www.ultraproducts.com/product_info.php?cPath=30&products_id=79

to me this would not qualify as a quality heatsink. But that may just be me.

As for a way of monitoring temps here are a few options.
