What should I use to separate the heatsink and CPU from each other when I want to add a new HSF?

seperate? are they stuck together? i remember my old emachine had the cpu and hsf stuck together with some type of crappy paste, if thats the case, just pull them apart and you should be fine.

I'm guessing you want to know what kind of thermal conductive material you need. Thermal pastes are the best, with Artic Silver 6 being the best paste out right now if I'm not mistaken.

A little twisting will help break the "suction". And AS5 is still a favorite.
