okok where to start.. system components

Abit IS7 - latest bios
2.4c
512 pc2700 crucial
ATI AIW 9000pro
120gb WD
52x24x52x Sony CDR/RW
Win XP sp1a
300w PS

I have troubles getting it past 2.8GHz
I am not sure what to set the bios stuff,
like memory timing,,., 2.5,4,4,8 ? thats what i have it at or should i leave it SPD?
cpu voltage? ram voltage?
i set the agp to lock so it doesnt change
when i go to say 250fsb windows reboots right after it says welcome...
I tried upping all voltages but i dont know what are safe for my equipment.
I read that the new 2.4c's arent as easy to OC as the older production ones?
I am guessing this is a memory problem as i have had problems with this type of memory before. who knows..not me. This is my first P4 system, i was into the AMD's but the 2.4c was a steal. please help me! -Adam

Repost, but since he has it in a thread of his own....

First off, sell the PC2700 memory and get PC3200. You can't do an overclock when your already under the required memory speed for basic processor usage.

The P4-C models (800mhz fsb) run 400mhz memory in 1:1 mode. For yours to work, the memory needs to be set at 5:4 mode....and thats just for 2.4ghz (default speed). To go higher you need to drop the multiplier to 3:2 and relax the timings. This is why your stuck at 2.8ghz.

So do like I said, get rid of the PC2700 memory and get PC3200 (or even go for PC3500/4000).

Hi CooLJoE

Are PC 3700 not recommendable?

3700 is fine becuase it is DDR466 whereas the PC2700 is DDR333 and is slower than what is needed in this motherboard.

The minimum to use is DDR400 or PC3200.

Adam, after getting some new memory you should read the :"Help overclocking the 2.4c forum" as it goes into things in great depth.
