| tell the truth don't think it's the preshott that did that though, would've needed to have hit 600-1000C for it to melt, unless the heatsink was really really really bad quallity... but it sure got a laugh....still wondering how it was managed. |

WTF? That is something i'd have to see to believe. Is it part of the heatsink that is melted, or the fan on the heatsink? _________________ JayDubya aka JW Jay JD ^> ﺵ |

Amazing....never underestimate the average idiot.
I think several ppl here routinely work on PC's....I was thinking just the other day, that we should start a thread or sticky, to show off some of the things we run across.
Digi-cam pic is worth a thousand words. (or laughs) _________________ .

you should sell this guy a VapoChill rig
or...tell him to stop using the propane-torch to "BURN-IN" his Processors _________________ Yeah....... ok |

he was trying to make a seamless connection b/n the core and the heatsink. He was using an arcwelder. Then the aluminum went POOF! _________________ JayDubya aka JW Jay JD ^> ﺵ |

Actually, I HAVE seen a heatsink that was melted by the computer. It was a system that was brought in for repair when worked at a local computer shop. What had happened (as far as I could tell from the mess) was somehow the PSU cables had arced across the heatsink, a short between +5v / +12V and ground (not sure how the sink was grounded though ). this dumped about 30 or 40 Amps across the aluminium of the sink. it melted and warped the sink, BURNED the CPU to a crispy critter and the PSU had litterally exploded inside.
Some of the wire had vaporised, leaving little balls of molten copper all over the motherboard. After I had opened this and looked at the mess inside, I asked the guy what the hell had happened to it, all he said was "the missus"
I don't know what she did or was trying to do, but that system was TOASTED!.

| he claimed it was the cpu that melted the bottom of the heatsink. as i said, i doubt it. maybe he forget the thermalpad and had alchohol on the cpu and heatsink that ignited. |

probably some joker who fried the cpu then decided that he might have more luck replacing it if he melted the heatsink so it looked like a fault with the procy or somthing, I have seen a few similar attempts at claiming on waranty. _________________ Phenom II x4 955 @ Stock
