Okay...... my computer is beginning to piss me off. I've been thinking for a while that I was going to upgrade to XP and right now i'm unable to install programs, I'm unable to access Device Manager, unable to access DeFrag, and unable to access the command prompt. Soooooooooo....... I was able to backup all of my data and here's what I want to do.

I want to completely love level format both my drives...... make all nice and shiny clean. Buy a copy of XP and put it on....... start from scratch.

My only problem.... I need a copy of XP. Would prefer professional but I don't need it.

I've tried pricegrabber and the cheapest they list it for is ninety bucks. That's WAY out of pocketbook range at the moment. I mean...... geeze I was ble to get a copy of OSX for 46 dollars!

Does anyone know of any place I can get my hands on a cheap (legal) copy of XP?

not sure how you "love level" anything .... but you do understand that a low level involves writting zeros to the drive....correct?

do you have a "need" for XP? there are advantages to staying with 98, particularly with some older hardware.
for instance...that ATI you are getting will not work with XP.

reinstall 98 cleanly......and keep it untill you save the pennies for XP.

there are a variety of benefits to xp pro... although price is not one of them.
as for staying with 98... i have to disagree with that one. i just have a hard time with users with continue to use an outdated OS when there is better available. i can understand if it's a matter of money, but if not, then upgrade. as for the video card, if you do some searching, you may find drivers (albeit not official) that work.

if you choose not to get xp, then i would certainly suggest 2k at the very least.
(we run 2k pro at our office, and i've been running 2k server at home, and it's a great OS. i am also running xp pro, and swear by it.)

I'm running 2k server at the moment.. but I lost my disk so. *shrugs* I'll probably upgrade.

What's the difference between pro and corporate edition?

no activation required for the corporate... so IT can install on all the required boxes without needing to activate windows on each one. useful for creating images and distributing them onto the floor quickly. plus, that's how they get them when they order X amount of licenses.
