|
|
Well, I got in my Mini, it had been raining but had stoped, so I went to use the single wipe function on the wiper control stick on the steering column, I barely even touched it and it snapped right off. "F&%$" was my first thought.
Well, I stripped down the mechinism, super glued the plastic part back together and inserted the stick. All going well I thought. Just then the switch part of the mechinism which has a strong spring flew apart.
I've tried for over 4hrs to get the bits back in place, problem is it has a roller contact that just cannot be put back in place (dunno how it was done when manufactured). To top it all off, somewhere allong the process I shorted out half the electrics and blew a whole load of fuses.
Add this to the growing number of problems like the fact that only 1 of the front brake calipers is working (the other caliper is stuffed and rear drums are not up to much either), the engine needs some work, It burns oil, has an oil leak on the gearbox (which is part of the engine and shares the same oil) the front subframe is twisted (I skidded off the road in the ice), the Sills need replaced, I have 3 diferent types of rubber on my wheels (and diferent sizes too) 2 of them are always going flat, the steering is shot, the seat belts don't work anymore and all the rubber engine / frame mountings and rubber suspension springs need replaced. Oh yes, and now my lights, indicators and wipers are F.U.B.A.R
Well, I'm gona have a trip up the the local scrap yard and have a look for some replacement parts (I know there is at least ONE Mini up there that has compatable bits, some of which I already took and used my car).
It's getting to the point where I'm gona end up finding a Mini in the scrap yard thats in better shape that the one I got.
Adam Sandler's song "Ode to my car" sums up my rust bucket.
I swear my car has been possesd or something, it's like it's TRYING to kill me. Guess I can always roll it into the garage next to the Merc 200 which has been there for the last few years, rusting slowly 'cos I ain't go the cash to fix it.
Oh and to top it all off, I'm writing this in the dark because my house lights have blown. Did I P155 God off or something? Has Electricity turned against me? What the hell happened here??

I would dare say that the best method to fix your car is to take the air freshener from the rearview and install it in a new car. And from the sound of it the car in the junkyard maybe in better shape than yours as it may not have a twisted subframe.
*stands very far away from SS* I think since you are having troubles with electricity that you maybe getting alot of it in a hurry very shortly. _________________ I tweaked and it tweaked back! So I Tweaked some more!

Sorry to hear about the mini, SS. Maybe you could scrap that out and get some money for your mercedes? It'll be difficult to find another mini in a UK junkyard
Hmm, maybe we could all pull together and 'pimp' SS's mini. You know, new 4x4 platform, 18" lift, 28" boggers, a nice smallblock, and a T-350. You know, make him feel at home there in the UK. _________________ JayDubya aka JW Jay JD ^> ﺵ |

HA HA....a 350.......that'll just about fit in the drivers compartment........we could weld a metal folding chair onto the roof (right on the cannabis leaf) with a seat belt with a shifter extension (which i SURE would travel too far) and some metal rods drilled through the roof fro pedal extesions........it would take some getting used to....but MAN that thing would haul A55 _________________

Well I just sorted out the buggered up electrics, so now I can drive that car, but the wipers are screwed. As long as it's not raining I'm ok.
Oh well guess if it rains I can just stick my head out of the driver side window, now then, where did I put those swiming goggles?................

Jay alot worse!!! have you ever tried working on a positive ground car? I have seen some really screwed up things when people try and jumpstart with or on one of these systems. People hook them up just as it was the normal negative ground and things dont end good. These one guys had to urinate on it to put out the fire. Thank God I didnt have to work on that one!! _________________ I tweaked and it tweaked back! So I Tweaked some more!

:) Maybe they were just showing their dislike of the car!
Agreed on the probs using a positive ground car, though there are very few on british roads these days. Most have been converted to run negative earth. Even the original dynamo can be converted, you just got to reverse the magnetic field. A couple of good sparks from the car battery is usually enough.
Mine is a neg ground, ever since the use of alternators came into use on the Mini it's been a negitive ground. The only prob with the wiring loom is that for such a small car it has MILES of the stuff.
The spaces where it is installed are really hard to work in, tight as hell.
The car went out of production in 2000, I can get nearly ANY parts except for the indicator and wiper sticks / switches. Grrrr
Ahh well, at least wit the Mini I can use just about ANY make of car parts for replacements. I use bit of Ford parts for some of the engine and ignition. Thank god the mini is so easy to mod, I can fix it without the original parts.
