|
|
Okay heres the deal, im a lazy computer nerd with one dilemma, my computer is to damn heavy and to damn big (im sure all you x dreamer owners know what i mean), and when i take it to lan parties it takes both arms just to carry it, and i usually have to walk a good distance, and i want to install 2 handles on the top, but ive noticed that the top panel of the x dreamer seems a bit flimsy, and i dont want to install handles take it to a lan, have the handles break off, and have my baby drop to the floor and smash, then i'd cry.
and i was wondering if anyone has done this before with the xd, and how did it turn, out maybe some pics of the results would be nice, if not then i guess im on my own. |

Instead of putting handles on the case, maybe you could use some nylon straps or bungee cords to make a carrying case. Just make the straps go all the way around and have handles on the top.
I know it may be combersome to take it off and put it back on but its worth a shot . . . maybe. _________________ JayDubya aka JW Jay JD ^> ﺵ |

A simple but effective mod, Take a large strap from a sports bag or similar (the shoulder carry strap) that has 2 little spring clips/hooks on either end. Mount 2 metal hooks (like those on the bag that clip onto the strap), one at the back of the case and one at the front clip the strap on and carry it on your shoulder. You can unclip the strap at any time if it spoils the look of your case.
Simple, safe and CHEAP
If you don't have a bag you could gut for parts, just take the strap off and find some strong metal chain, take 2 links off, open them up a little to seperate them, close 'em back up ( use some heavy duty pliers or grips) and attach to the case (make sure that the cut section is mounted to the case or fixed shut to stop the strap pulling on the weakest point).
Not only is this effective, it's a mod to the case too

| Why don't use put some wheels on the bottom of your case, hook up a transmitter from an r/c car and some servo's and drive it around. I guess stairs could be a problem though. |

If you wanted to mount handles, the best place to mount then would probably be at the back and the front. the handles should go from corner to corner for the most stability.
There are alot of ways you COULD do this. Any ideas? _________________ JayDubya aka JW Jay JD ^> ﺵ |

I have to agree with Jay on the locations for the handles. To add more structural strength you can use a piece of metal "flat bar" that spans the width of the case. That way when you drill thru the case and also thru the metal bar the handle will mount to this as well. That should give the handles plenty of strength. _________________ I tweaked and it tweaked back! So I Tweaked some more!

Ermr, thats MY idea and I'm still woorking on that. even fund a way to add a water cooler to it.
Yeah, to mount handles just attach a sturdy bit of meatal ben to the right shape to scre into the caase mount for the drives and then drill through the case and the metal and bolt the tow together.
BTW I've ben drinkkking toniighhht and I'm probabley missiiing somthing out.

Nah, single malt scotch whisky is the best. MMMMMM Glenfiddich!
The name Fiddich indicates that the river runs in the valley of the deer and indeed a stag is the company's emblem. The distillery takes its own water from the Robbie Dubh spring.
MMMMMM Glenfiddich!
Irish whiskey, well I've had a few and most of them did'nt have much flavour.
Canadian whisky SUCKS!
I don't mind Merkin "whisky", JD, Jim Bean etc. but I would'nt class those as a real whisky. Bourbon is more like it's own breed apart.
I'm not sure what Southern Comfort could be classed as, But I do enjoy a drop from time to time.
I like some blended whisky too, Famous Grouse is a good tasting one. I like Bells too, yet the BEST tasting whisky I like is Tesco's own brand (a supermarket in the UK). Dunno what distillery makes it, but it's GOOD.
In fact I'm drinking whisky right now, quiet night in with a drop of the good stuff and my computer, classic.

Scotch whiskey is the best kind of whiskey.
If i were to put handles on this thing, i'd probably put one in the back and one in the front as close to the corners as possible for the greatest stability and leastess amount of sterss on the case.
Nuff said, end thread _________________ JayDubya aka JW Jay JD ^> ﺵ |
