|
|
What amp do you guys/girls recommend for me to use to hook up to (2) 12" KICKER SOLOBARICS L7 which are 1,500 watt MAX and 750 RMS?
I want to give them enough to pound HARD, nice and clear. I want to be able to pump up the volume all the way and not be able to blow them. I only want to put 1 amp but keep my budget uder $300.........
I NEED HELP!!!!!!!

dude, you have some f****d up priorities. I know that's blunt...but if you haven't already bought your subs you may wish to rethink.
For starters, are your L7's 2OHM DVC or 4OHM DVC? This is crucial. If they are dual 4ohm VC's, then it would be MOST EFFICIENT to find either a 2ohm stereo amp or a 1 ohm mono sub amp. If they are dual 2OHM, then they could be wired to 2ohm mono. Either will work....but we gotta know bud.
No amplifier will effectively power a pair of L7's to their potential for under 300 bucks.
Strange how you probably dropped around $600 for subs and only want to shell out half of that for an amp. With a clean signal and proper enclosure, most subwoofers will accept more than their factory rated RMS load. The reason for this is largely CLEAN SIGNAL. More speakers are blown from dirty signal than actually having too much power run through them. Also, because the L7's ahve a fairly long XMAX *13.2mm one way*, they have little risk of bottoming out and causing damage that way.
IF it were me I'd have just ONE L7 and spend 6hundo on an amp saving space and making better use of a high quality sub.
If, however, you already have 2 L7's and can't return one, here are a few of your best bets for under 3 large:
Kicker KX400.1
http://www.crutchfield.com/S-lNJbPYP1r1q/cgi-bin/ProdView.asp?s=0&c=3&g=130&I=2064KX4001&o=p&a=0&cc=01&avf=N&search=
Audiobahn A8000T
http://www.crutchfield.com/S-lNJbPYP1r1q/cgi-bin/ProdView.asp?s=0&c=3&g=130&I=037A8000T&o=p&a=0&cc=01&avf=N&search=
If you end up w/ only one sub (RECOMMENDED), this is the kind of amp that SHOULD power ONE of the L7's:
MTX Thunder1501D
http://www.crutchfield.com/S-lNJbPYP1r1q/cgi-bin/ProdView.asp?wm=fp&I=236T1501D&g=130
Brands to avoid: Phoenix gold, power acoustic, coustic, BOSS, andy anything else seen sold new at pawnshops (lol)
Preferred brands: Memphis, Audiobahn, Kicker, MTX, Infinity/JBL/Harman, Alpine, etc
*edit* language Sally, remember this is a forum for all ages. |

You won't have much luck in that price range, I'm sorry to say. I would highly recommend the Mephis 1000d though. I believe it puts out about 1000watts RMS at 2ohms. Bad thing is that it runs about $500 or better new. Ebay might be your best bet.
Just for clarification, how many voice coils does each sub have and what is the impedence for each voice coil? _________________ JayDubya aka JW Jay JD ^> ﺵ |

I guess the 1000d only puts out 1100watts at 1ohm. I agree with Sally though, subs are NOTHING without the right amp powering them. If you don't get the right amp, your 2 L7's will sound like a couple of wanna be 10" off brand subs. If you put the right amount of power into one (i.e.- 1000watts into one dual 2ohm sub) then it will sound much better than two with 500watts or less each. _________________ JayDubya aka JW Jay JD ^> ﺵ |

I rock a Memphis 1000d in my car w/ one ROCKFORD POWERHX2 (rfr3112) 12" sub (wired to 1ohm) and it gives brutal excursion but never asks more of the sub than it is ready to dish out. Your L7's are of a similar caliber and require a top notch amp. The memphin runs around 699 last i checked.......but the MTX I described above would perform quite similarly _________________ |¤| |

I hate to say it, but its going to be just about impossible to get one amp that will push 2 of those subs and be less than $300. You might also need a capacitor for that much power too. _________________ JayDubya aka JW Jay JD ^> ﺵ |

^^^^^agreed....the amp yyou use to power your subs.....is ALMOST more important than the subs themselves.........without good clean power.....your sound will suffer _________________

I totaly agree. A good few years back I had a 500w RMS 12" alpine sub in my bug and I was running it on a crappy bottom range pioneer amp (can't remember the model) and it sounded like s##t so being an ignorant peon I sold it to a friend. He stuck on a 650w alpine amp and I nearly cried when I heard it. AMP IS more important than sub. A crappy sub with a pimp amp sounds better than the other way arround. Good luck _________________ Phenom II x4 955 @ Stock

^^^^^exactly.......its not the amount of power (wattage) you put into your car that makes it sound so awesome.....its how effeciently you USE your wattage......... _________________

Very true. Overpowering a sub is much much better for it then under powering it. If you under power it, you can cause distortions and shorten the life very easily. _________________ JayDubya aka JW Jay JD ^> ﺵ |

| I have a 1995 Chevy Impala SS. I want to put 4 Kicker solobaric S 12 L5's. I currently have an audiobahn 1800D but I don't plan on using it on the 4 Kicker 12's L5's How does an audiobahn 2300HCT which puts out 2400 watts RMS @ 1ohm sound on the 4 Kicker 12's L5's? is audiobahn amps good on kicker or is it better to go with kicker amp with kicker subs or audiobahn amp with audiobahn subs? |

We had 4 Kicker L710s running 2 ohm stable on a 2 channel Hifonics 2000w brutus amp. The subs handled the power the amp was giving them and was extremely loud. Your not going to get an amp that powerful that can power 2 L712s. I would have got one L712 and a really good amp to power it if money was an issue. _________________ Justin Murray
