i thought i would chek in and tell u bout my new hardware, after my "slightly" rude post a few daze ago.
i just got, from newegg, a vga silencer and an nb-1c northbridge cooler.
the nb-1c is dope as hell i can run fsb @466 easy as hell 100f. this is tight cuz my corsair value select ram is rated @400. all of it is stable as hell too.
but then there is the vga silencer. i put it on my aiw 9800pro and max core is getting is 385mhz. i have seen ppl with like 420 on this same design card.
was i supposed to take that stupid gpu shim off? is that was is causing my issues?

good to see you back up and running. It is important to have good northbridge cooling for a good stable overclock.

You have to remember that everychip will overclock differently. Just because someone has the same card as you it doesnt mean that both cards with be able to handle the same speeds.

Its possible that the shim helped dissipate heat but not extremely likely. You could try getting a little more voltage to the core.

How long have you had that? Its been a while if i am not mistaken but it may be possible to RMA it because it is 'deffective'.

hmm? take the gfx card back? i dont think so cuz i got it last december. i was thinkin that if i had that since i had that absolutely lousy stock cooler on the card that it messed the core up. cuz it wasnt cooling it right since december... and then i thought, well i looked at the stock cooler and there is like this lump where the core meets with the sink... so basically there is a lump where the sink hits the core...kinda like it needed that so that it could reach past the shim towards the core... so that is why i was thinkin that maybe the shim need to be removed.

oh yeah new prob... have any of u figured the boot_mount_volume error... blue screen of death... i hate windoze... not... i just hate my copy of windoze cough cough.. hint towards recent post.

ATI offers a 2 year manufactuer warrenty. I had to send back my power-color 9700pro twice, and there wasnt any problem.Just make sure it has the original heatsink on it when you send it back. It explains it on ati's website. As long as its an ati chipset, they will RMA it. Good luck.

Hmm, I switched to fedora core 2's boot loader. I can't remember the name but I would try installing another boot loader. The one you have seems corrupt. Go back to stock values for everything and try fixing it then.
