Hey, I've been working on a friends computer, and when i boot up, it stops laoding in the main bios startup screen where it checks the drives and ram. ti says "PNP init Completed", then stays there. If i go into bios, and exit, it works fine, or if i get into windows and restart the computer its' fine, it only happens when i TURN ON the system. Any ideas? I tried flashing the bios, but the one i got from the asus website turns out to be wrng. I downloaded it, tried to flash, but it said the file was incorrect. he has a Asus A7V8X-X mobo, and teh bios is 1005, so i should get 1006, but like i said, it doesnt work.

disable the setting for "PNP OS"

it always seems to be a bug with the Windows Platform.

see if it helps!

also....are you sure that you have the correct model number of the board? a lot of the models are similar right now......A7V8X or A7N8X?

I see that item is listed as a fix in the newer bios release...

Fix some Logitech wireless keyboard/mouse cannot work under Windows XP
Fix on-board audio SSID may be incorrect after resume from S3
Correct System hangs sometimes after POST screen shows "PNP Init complete

Did you use the windows based bios update or from a floppy?
I personally have used both and they always have worked...

your bios is here:
http://www.asus.com/pub/ASUS/mb/socka/kt400/a7v8x-x/a7v8xx06.zip

your aflash is here:
http://www.asus.com/pub/ASUS/mb/flash/aflash221.zip

you windows based update application is here:
http://www.asus.com/pub/ASUS/mb/flash/asusupdt51601.zip

now...these update utilities are the lastest releases.....if they do not function for you...then you might try an older version. Bugs might be not be worked out of these applications.

Nice work DMW, you really went out of your way to help.

In the BIOS it is ALWAYS a safe practise to set PNP Aware BIOS to "NO" to save a lot of problems.

Only do this is you are installing an OS and don't just go in and change it because it can screw up your IRQ's and start a nuclear fire.

Ok, the nuclear fire thing is BS.
