Late response here, but JW's reccomendation is exactly what i would go for with a gaming rig. I have the NF7 and it is simple and good to overclock with, i just have a s*** 2400+ . If you have a budget on the GPU go for the 9800 pro 256mb, if you have a large budget, go for the 6800GT.
And yeah, if you can afford it, i highly reccomend the xaser 3, really nice.
Im not sure whether you were asking about actually "building a PC", so if you are, here is a site with a complete guide to building a PC, if you have a question about building a PC, it will be here.

xaser 3 all the way babby. its an awesome case but if u want good cooling with it be prepared to replace all the fans, and even cut out the grills. the grills are horrible restrictors on this case. but other than that it cools hella good

actually at the moment the boards with PCI-E on them are P4 boards with the 925 or 915 chipsets. So if that is something you are looking for then right now you wouldnt be able to get a A64. _________________ I tweaked and it tweaked back! So I Tweaked some more!

I see \_/ pulled his posted scores when he got that 6800 GPU....

| if ur gonna go for a 9800pro u might want to wait a few weeks till the 6600GT with the AGP interface comes out. MSRP is $199 and it performs like a 6800 (read from the previews). |

I already beat you to it. right now I got my rig overclocked to 2.2 * 10^3Mhz. Hahaha. No one can touch that!
I could have sworn that I saw one or two amd64 mobo's with pci-x. Maybe they were just testbeds/prototypes? _________________ JayDubya aka JW Jay JD ^> ﺵ |

ok with all of your imput (everyone). I've decided what I want.
Athlon 3200+
Abit nf-7m
thermaltake silent tower copper heatpipe
kingston DDR PC3200 1 GBx2
Maxtor either 80 or 120 GB diamondmax plus HD
256MB 6800 GT
Thermaltake V5000D (blue is pretty!)
Ultra 500watt ATX power supply
and i gues likie saoundblaster live or something.
please tell me where I'm going wrong in this rig, even if it's just a matter of opinion. _________________ god my machine sucks... |

Save yourself a few bucks and get the regular nf7. The nf7m has onboard video that you do not need. It can cause some problems and is definately not recommended.
I would still get a 2500m with a decent cooler. It will run cooler (also overclock better if you want) and would be very easy to run at 3200+ speeds. It also costs MUCH less than the 3200+

why do u want the nf7-m model mobo... that is the integrated graphics model. if you are going to get a freakin 6800gt then whats up with integrated graphics once u plug in that dope ass card it disables onboard gfx.
what is the point of getting one of the best o/c mobo's out and u just want to put a 3200+ in it... imo, that is wasteful. just get a mobility proc. and o/c that biznatch.
and this silent tower thing, well can you say dislocated zif socket and bye bye 6800gt
are you getting 2x 1gigabyte of ram or 2x 512megs of ram... 2 gigs is overkill to the maximum.
forgive me if im wrong but is the diamond max plus the pata drive, if i were you i would just invest in 2 raptors put them i raid0 and it will smoke dawg.
why do you want to get a sound blaster. all nforce2 mobo's come with 5.1 dolby digital surround sound.

nf7 or nf7-s
if it isn't too late i would recommend against the 32 bit amd in favor of the 64bit...
doubled my FPS in doom3 went from a 2500+m oc'ed and changed it to a 3400+ amd64 stock same videocard, same ram, and the 3400+ kills the barton. and with 1/3 of the noise.
my recommendation
kv8pro v1.1
amd64 2800+ - 3400+
some kickass sweat videocard
now the debate will get started that 64bit cpu's don't have 64bit software, and that there is no point getting it... etc. all I have to say is SCREW 64bit mode, hell double FPS in doom3 thats more than good enough for me! and if it can do 64bit well bonus... but the matter still remains that it kicks serious @$$ |

Actually, I would suggest going with a nf7-s now. Get a SATA hard drive for faster load times for windows and games.
2GB of ram is probably overkill like Gmoney said. Go for 2*512mb sticks of pc3200 instead.
I knew I forgot something else. The nf-7 series motherboards have some damn decent onboard sound. No sound card is required. _________________ JayDubya aka JW Jay JD ^> ﺵ |

in regards to the silent tower... i have one... and while the performance of it with two 92mm tornados is absolutely fantastic!!!!!!!!!!! it doesn't sit on the cpu properly. Too damn big though. Also don't try on any nforce based boards, the socket alignment is wrong and so there is only room for one fan, and the powersupply blocks airflow...
performance as mentioned is insane though!
3400+ amd64 with tornados at full it runs at room temp idle, and at full load it runs at 4C more and the time it takes to shed the 4C is miliseconds... course i don't run the tornados at full i run em at 5v instead of 12. still better than most other fans, but not quiet as noisy.
anyway... sockets be ware!!!!! |

why the 2500 and not somewhere in between. spending an extra $40 for performance doesn't really bother me.
what board do you suggest then meobius? and how well does it oc? _________________ god my machine sucks... |
