What kind of audio production are you looking to do.......i am an audio guy too.......=]
recording, editing only, production, creation?

i would recommend going P4 for audio and heavy math intensive apps......like media stuff

get some good fast ram, like corsair or OCZ, or geil, or kingston, and get at least a gig

mobo wise, i would go asus abit or dfi, hands down.......if youre not looking into overclocking, and msi would also be great, for a slightly cheaper solution

we'll talk more when i know what your looking to do......=]

For once I will actually agree with this goon. ^^^ He actualy knows what hes talking about.. You might also want to look into an Audigee (spelled wrong) external sound card.

get P4 because Intel is better for editing and stuff while AMD is good for gamming, get a sound blaster Audigy sound card they are great and sound relaly good i recommend the Audigy LS its the card i ahve and tis got 24bit audio evne though most uadio isnt 24bit yet ti still ameks every sound a lot better.

coming from a basic user standpoint i would agree with you, but i dont know the depth he intends on diving into musically......that card would NOT be a good idea for some instances....it doesnt have great latency reviews.......let wait for him to get back to us

Why do u have 2 different sizes of memory?? to run dual channel for a large increase in performance, they have to be the same. Instead of the 400Mhz CPU i suggest going for a 2.8 or 3.0 C cpu and an appropriate motherboard.

Looks pretty good but you will definately want to go with 2 sticks of IDENTICAL pc3200. That is a must.

What will you be using for video/graphics? You may need something unless you have it onboard.

i got a related question
i realize intel is faster for media apps, but a P4 2.6C is the same price as a A64 3000
so for the same price which would be better for media apps

Tough call. You'll probably have to see if you can google for some media benchies on both processors.

Benchies are to black and white, there are other intangables....OS's and editing software have preferences. In my case I was running a video app. and the software ppl put out a HT patch, and zing instant better. Like 40% faster resamples. If I were to bet...a year from now you'd be happier with the Intel, for the media apps. But...I'm better at the past than the future, 64 bit software would change the rules.

I would go P4 and i have that exact mobo , it has no on-board video and ok on-board sound ( go with the after markert card) and it does support dual channel ram so i would HIGHLY reccomend 2 x 512 ddr400 sticks .
