HL2 downloaded but locked in steam!!!!

Well, I just downloaded the locked version of HL2 through steam. Now why do they taunt us like this

Hopefully it'll be unlocked soon enough.

lol, it releases in 2 days my good man... I have a Collector's Edition on hold at EB, so I'm all set

I'm one of the type to prefer a hard copy to a download... sorta oldschool I guess. Plus I get alot of extra shizzy.

yeah guys...sorry to say...but that mail account that rleased the info from valve......was hacked.....it is NOT an official release date.....it is NOT going gold

Ouch,,, Jan10...Doesn't make business sense....if they can't get it out and on shelves by Thanksgiving, they might as well wait till March,,,marketing in the USofA, ya know.

Many are saying that this locked/encrypted download is just another way to taunt us. Others (esteemed members of valve

j/k) are saying it will be decrypted in a few days.

the locked version is just a preload, not the whole game. it was the same with cs:s

If you think about it from a business stand point, Jan 10 is a good move. Doom3 just came out not too long ago and Halo 2 is due for November 9th. Valve is better off waiting for the hype to calm and the wallets to fatten before letting HL2 out. This way there is also no DIRECT competition or fresh comparisson. Even though the style of play will be different from Halo 2and HL2, they are still both first person shooters. You don't want to release a first person shooter too close to the release of the most pre-ordered video game in history, when it also happens to be a FPS. (Halo 2, for those who are not too sharp) Just not smart.

Well, Halo 2 won't come out for the pc for quite some time (Christmas or so).
I was just reading an article that stated Valve pushed back the Sept 30th release date . . . turns out that was still in 2003!
Lets hope they release it this month. I think it might be easy to say that some people may be getting bored with doom3 b/c i haven't seen any mods for it. Until they come out it may die down.
Halo 2 is still 2 months away for the xbox release. Now would be a perfect time for HL2 to release IMOHO
